Yoxgit

The Ugnaught male named Yoxgit made his living by trading tibanna gas with various arms dealers within Cloud City, located on the planet Bespin. During the time of the Galactic Civil War, he happened to cross paths with Alliance to Restore the Republic heroes Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Princess Leia Organa, as well as Baron Administrator Lando Calrissian, in the city's passageways, not long before their capture by the Sith Lord Darth Vader. Following this, the city fell under Imperial control, leading Yoxgit to relocate to the planet Tatooine.

Once on Tatooine, Yoxgit found employment with the crime lord Jabba the Hutt, where he again encountered Solo, who was now frozen in carbonite and on display in Jabba's Palace. When Solo's allies later attempted a rescue mission, Yoxgit was among the members of Jabba's court who witnessed the Jedi Luke Skywalker kill Jabba's pet rancor. Subsequently, the captured Rebels were taken to the Great Pit of Carkoon for their execution, with Yoxgit accompanying his Hutt employer aboard the sail barge Khetanna to observe their demise. However, at the pit, the Rebels successfully escaped, killed Jabba, and destroyed the sail barge, which exploded over the desert.

Biography

Cloud City worker

Yoxgit's occupation involved the illicit sale of tibanna gas within Cloud City.

During the Galactic Civil War, the Ugnaught male Yoxgit was employed in the airborne Cloud City on the planet Bespin, which was a battleground between the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the Galactic Empire. In this setting, he amassed considerable wealth through the illegal trade of tibanna gas, which was mined from Bespin's atmosphere and sold to arms dealers. Approximately three years following the Battle of Yavin, Yoxgit, along with two other Ugnaughts, were engaged in a deep conversation as they walked through one of Cloud City's corridors. At that moment, the city's Baron Administrator Lando Calrissian emerged from a nearby room, accompanied by the smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca, as well as the Rebel leader Princess Leia Organa. Yoxgit and his companions then took a different path from the group of four, who proceeded to meet with the Sith Lord [Darth Vader](/article/anakin_skywalker], resulting in the capture of Solo, Chewbacca, and Organa. Soon after this capture, Cloud City was seized by the Empire under Vader's command. Organa and Chewbacca managed to escape the Empire's grasp with the help of Calrissian and the Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker, but Solo was frozen in carbonite and taken away by the bounty hunter Boba Fett.

Member of Jabba's court

Within the following year, Yoxgit left Bespin and journeyed to the desert planet Tatooine, where he secured employment with the Hutt crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure. During Yoxgit's service to the Hutt, Jabba possessed the frozen Solo, displaying him in his Palace. In 4 ABY, Skywalker, Calrissian, Organa, Chewbacca, and the droids C-3PO and R2-D2 launched an attempt to rescue Solo, with Calrissian infiltrating the palace undercover and the droids being presented as gifts to Jabba by Skywalker. Following the droids' arrival, Yoxgit sat next to the Saurin Gauron Nas Tal in one of the booths in Jabba's throne room during a performance by the Max Rebo Band.

After the band completed the song "Jedi Rocks," Jabba demanded a repeat performance but stopped the second rendition when he dropped the enslaved dancer Oola into the pit beneath the throne room after she rejected his advances. The court then gathered to watch the dancer being devoured by Jabba's pet rancor, Pateesa, after which Organa arrived disguised as the bounty hunter Boushh with Chewbacca as her prisoner. After she threatened the court with a thermal detonator, Jabba agreed to pay Organa a higher bounty for Chewbacca, but once the Wookiee was taken away, Organa snuck back into the throne room late at night and managed to succeed in thawing Solo out of his carbonite prison. She and Solo were then both captured by Jabba and his men. Yoxgit was then present in the throne room when Skywalker arrived, entering the palace at night while most of the court was asleep. As the court awoke, the Jedi attempted to negotiate with the Hutt, but when things turned sour he threatened Jabba with a DL-18 blaster pistol, prompting the Hutt to drop him through a trapdoor into the pit were his pet rancor was kept, accidentally dropping a Gamorrean guard into the pit as well.

Yoxgit and the other court members rushed forward to witness the rancor feast, but the beast only managed to devour the guard before being killed by Skywalker. Outraged, Jabba demanded that Skywalker, Solo and Chewbacca be executed. Yoxgit was then amongst the many members of Jabba's court who accompanied the Hutt on his sail barge Khetanna to the Great Pit of Carkoon, where the prisoners were to be fed to a sarlacc. While on the barge, Yoxgit sat drinking with the Snivvian Geezum and the guard Fozec until R2-D2 bumped into C-3PO infront of the trio and spilled the drinks he was carrying all over them. Yoxgit wiped himself off and soon after they arrived at the pit. Once there, Skywalker and his companions managed to free themselves and after Organa killed Jabba, the Rebels managed to destroy the barge and flee.

Personality and traits

Yoxgit's journey included travel on the Khetanna to the Great Pit of Carkoon.

Yoxgit, an Ugnaught male, possessed gray hair, black eyes, and a fair complexion. He engaged in blood duels, utilizing his two facial tusks.

Equipment

While stationed on Bespin, Yoxgit was typically seen in grey clothing covered by a black apron. During his time in Jabba's palace, he instead wore a red suit with captain's stripes on the torso and a silver belt along with a pair of flight gauntlets and expensive, black, tactical boots.

Behind the scenes

The character Yoxgit initially appeared in the 1980 film Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, where he was played by Hazel Allen without receiving credit. The mask from the character's costume was subsequently reused during the filming of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, in which he was portrayed by a different actor who also went uncredited.

The name Yoxgit was originally created for a card in Jabba's Palace Limited, an expansion to the Star Wars Legends Star Wars Customizable Card Game that was released in 1998. This name was devised by randomly selecting tiles from a bag of Scrabble tiles, a suggestion made by Decipher employee Chuck Kallenbach.

Until 2004, the name was exclusively associated with the Ugnaught seen in Episode VI, with the Episode V appearance considered a separate, unnamed character. However, in 2004, the article Rogues Gallery: Pigs in Space!, penned by Leland Chee, identified the Episode V character as Yoxgit as well. The name was confirmed to be canon for both characters in the Star Wars Character Encyclopedia: Updated and Expanded, a source book authored by Simon Beecroft and Pablo Hidalgo and published in 2016.
