The All Terrain Reconnaissance Transport (AT-RT), alternatively referred to as the All Terrain Recon Transport or the Republic scout walker, represented a model of reconnaissance walker. This model was produced by Kuat Drive Yards and was heavily used during the Clone Wars by Advanced Recon Force Scout Troopers serving the Galactic Republic. It served as the predecessor to the All Terrain Scout Transport. During the Galactic Civil War, these walkers found usage with both the Galactic Empire, where Scout troopers operated them, and the Alliance to Restore the Republic, who enhanced them to keep pace with Imperial advancements.
AT-RTs typically fulfilled diverse roles, including providing ground support, aiding police forces, bolstering civil defense, and assisting in post-battle recovery. Occasionally, they were deployed to the front lines of ground engagements when the terrain hindered the deployment of larger vehicles.

The All Terrain Reconnaissance Transport, crafted by Kuat Drive Yards for the Galactic Republic, was a compact, lightweight, single-seat walker within the All-terrain vehicle line. Measuring 2.9 meters in length and 3.45 meters in height, it was utilized by the Grand Army of the Republic for reconnaissance, forward command, escort duties, and light offensive actions. Piloted by a lone [clone trooper](/article/clone_trooper], the AT-RT provided scout platoons with both enhanced mobility and tactical versatility. It incorporated a robust encrypted communications system, a compact yet advanced sensor suite, and a sound dampening system to facilitate covert operations. The cost of an AT-RT ranged from 8,000 to 20,000 credits.
In terms of combat capabilities, the AT-RT featured a chin-mounted Maad 38 laser cannon integrated into its forward hull. This provided the vehicle with the ability to engage both personnel and lightly-armored targets, granting the pilot sufficient firepower for a wide array of missions. However, the forward-mounted blaster could be exchanged for a refitted chin-mounted flamethrower or a refitted Z-6 rotary blaster cannon, and it could also carry a mortar launcher. The walker could achieve a maximum speed of 75 kilometers per hour and had a carrying capacity of up to 100 kilograms.
Throughout the conflict, AT-RT walkers were employed by the Grand Army of the Republic. During the Battle of Christophsis, clones utilized AT-RTs to defend against Whorm Loathsom's droid army. During the Battle of Ryloth, Lightning Squadron rode AT-RTs alongside the Twi'lek Resistance, who rode their blurrg mounts, to liberate the capital city of Lessu.
During the Battle of Umbara, Republic gunships deployed the walkers, which were used by the 501st Legion to combat the Umbaran Militia throughout the extended campaign. During the battle on Kiros, 501st and 212th Attack Battalion clones rode throughout the city to attack the droids, and Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan Ahsoka Tano rode them to chase after the Zygerrian enslaver Darts D'Nar when he fled the city. As the Clone Wars drew to a close, 41st Elite Corps clone troopers employed them during the Battle of Kashyyyk.

The Galactic Empire continued to deploy AT-RTs, with scout troopers serving as their operators. They could be deployed by an All Terrain Anti Aircraft. On Mygeeto, a group of scout troopers utilized at least two AT-RTs in a battle against a Rebel group known as the Plasma Devils.
The Alliance to Restore the Republic, notably the Tatooine rebel cell, utilized modified AT-RTs.
The Alliance to Restore the Republic also modified some AT-RT's to have a chin-mounted flamethrower, as well as modifying others to have a chin-mounted Z-6 rotary blaster cannon.
In 34 ABY, the First Order also utilized the walkers. They were present on Vodran during the capture of J-Squadron.
The All Terrain Reconnaissance Transport made its initial appearance in the 2005 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. It was later identified in Collapse of the Republic, a 2019 supplement for Fantasy Flight Games' series of Star Wars Roleplaying products.
