KX-series security droid

The KX-series security droids, alternatively known as KX-series enforcer droids, KX enforcer droids, or executor droids, represented a security droid model. These were produced by Arakyd Industries and saw service within the ranks of the Galactic Empire throughout the duration of the Galactic Civil War.

Description

KX executor droids had an intimidating stature.

The KX-series enforcer droids from Arakyd Industries were built with a pre-installed comm package, a recharge port, and a computer interface arm. This arm allowed them to interface with standard communication frequencies in their assigned areas. Each shoulder bore the Imperial crest, with a gold crest indicating enhanced status. The droids were designed with exaggerated human proportions, yet possessed the agility of a human athlete. They could operate various tools, equipment, and weapons, and carry loads without tiring, including blasters. Their imposing size and strength instilled fear in both Imperial personnel and rebels.

Despite the Imperial Senate's ban on battle droids, Arakyd exploited a legal loophole by marketing the KX-series as "security droids." These droids were programmed without the typical restrictions against harming organic sentient beings. They were programmed to recognize and obey Imperial Military officers holding the rank of lieutenant or higher.

KX-series droids were designed to communicate and interact, but lacked the sophistication of protocol droids. They could perform various tasks, such as escorting dignitaries, protecting VIPs, and defending Imperial facilities. However, they sometimes misinterpreted statements as literal orders. Baron Espis Zanchal possessed a service droid that bore a resemblance to the KX model.

Beyond security, KX-series droids could be used for manual labor and translation, although their programming made them find these tasks dull. They were pre-programmed to operate over forty Imperial transport vehicles and were capable of quickly learning to operate new ones.

The Security Droid Enforcer was more challenging in combat than a standard KX-series security droid.

By 9 BBY, a variant known as the Security Droid Enforcer existed. This model featured tan plating instead of black. Similar to some scout troopers, these droids were equipped with electro riot batons and reinforced chassis, making them more dangerous than the standard model. Their primary purpose was to train stormtroopers in electrobaton use. One service droid model utilized a modified KX-series head. This same modified head design was also used in a monster droid model.

History

Encounters with a Jedi

A large group of KX-series security droids from the Imperial garrison of Ilum was destroyed by Jedi Cal Kestis.

As early as 14 BBY, these droids were deployed to guard Imperial sites, including the Imperial Refinery on Kashyyyk, the mining headquarters on Ilum, and the Fortress Inquisitorius on Nur. During his mission to Ilum to obtain a kyber crystal for a new lightsaber, the Jedi Cal Kestis encountered and destroyed a large number of these droids.

In 9 BBY, K-4O5, a Security Droid Enforcer, guided Kestis to Imperial Senator Daho Sejan on Coruscant. Kestis feigned capture to approach the senator and his starship, where Sejan stored Imperial military intelligence. Kestis intended to deliver this information to Partisan Saw Gerrera. K-4O5 located Kestis again after his escape and confronted him. The droid was destroyed in the ensuing battle with Kestis and his ally, Bode Akuna.

Rebels and other insurgents

During the heist on Corellia, a KX-series security droid was present on Corellia alongside three stormtroopers.

In 5 BBY, several KX droids were stationed on the beaches of Niamos with coastal defender stormtroopers during the Imperial occupation.

Throughout the Galactic Civil War, they were deployed on both Jedha and the Imperial facility on Scarif. K-2SO and K-4D8 are examples of these droids. They also participated in the Great Purge of Mandalore, shooting survivors of Imperial TIE/sa bombers bombing runs.

KX-series secruity droids deployed to the surface of Mandalore with E-22 reciprocating double-barreled blaster rifles in the "Night of a Thousand Tears."

At least one KX-series security droid was stationed on an Imperial II-class Star Destroyer. Around 1 ABY, the astromech droid R2-D2 initiated a rescue of his companion C-3PO from the vessel, causing widespread disruption. Aware the attacker was a droid that had disabled multiple Imperial squads, a trio of stormtroopers searching for the culprit cornered a KX-series security droid and, despite its protests, destroyed it.

Around the same time, a KX-series security droid was among the forces that detained Doctor Chelli Aphra and her crew on Skako Minor. Destroyed in an explosion caused by a Flufto, one of Aphra's genetically-modified tookas, the droid auto-transmitted footage of the events before deactivating. This footage was intercepted by Imperial scanners and sent to Inspector Magna Tolvan, triggering several active search filters set by Tolvan. Tolvan and a corporal reviewed the posthumous transmission and associated location data, giving them a lead on Aphra's whereabouts.

The Tarkin Initiative constructed a machine using the head and torso of a KX-series security droid. It was frozen and stored aboard Hivebase-1, where Aphra, her crew, and Hera Syndulla discovered it.

In 3 ABY, a KX-series security droid was present on the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Executor. When bounty hunters Boba Fett and Beilert Valance infiltrated the destroyer to rescue the carbon-frozen Han Solo, the droid approached and lifted Fett. Valance damaged the enforcer's head with his palm blaster, causing it to question if Valance was a droid before the cyborg incapacitated the Imperial machine with a second blast.

A pair of KX-series security droids

At least two KX droids who gained sentience participated in the Second Revelation. Two KX-series security droids were present in the city of Kantiema on Brentaal IV during the bombing orchestrated by Jul Tambor and were caught in the explosion. Another two KX droids were among those wronged by Darth Vader and rebuilt to seek revenge on the Sith Lord as part of the droid uprising.

KX-series security droids and DT-series sentry droids infected by Scourge on Ryloth.

After the Battle at Amaxine Station, four droids were transported to the Amaxine Space Station on a Sentinel-class landing craft to assist in the cleanup ordered by the Emperor. One unit became infected after picking up a disk containing the Scourge, a being born of the Spark Eternal and a droid dropped by the Fermata Cage. Upon returning to an Imperial I-class Star Destroyer, the Scourge used the KX to spread, overwriting all droid life and leading them in a murderous revolt against the organic crew. The security droid, with the corrupting disk on its shoulder, stared out the viewport on the destroyer's bridge, the Scourge contemplating its vast knowledge, galactic insight, and plans for omnipresent dominion. The Scourge used several KX units as bodies on the Star Destroyer and began altering one's body.

Imperial Refining Platform M36 lacked organic life and was guarded solely by KX-series security droids armed with E-11 blaster rifles and T-21 light repeating blasters. Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker dispatched the platform's security force when the Rebellion launched a raid on the facility.

Beyond the Empire

Following the Empire's defeat, the New Republic chose to utilize the KX-series for its own security purposes. In 9 ABY, the modified KX-series security droid K-A0S competed as a Hunter in the Hunters of the Outer Rim competition on the planet Vespaara. Decades later, the B1-series battle droid-turned-author R0-GR documented information about the KX-series security droid in his "droidography."

Behind the scenes

KX-series droids were created for the Star Wars anthology film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Their first canonical appearance was in Star Wars: Commander. They later appeared in the ambiguously canon Star Wars: Visions.

Sometime between 1 ABY and 5 ABY, an KX droid accompanied an Imperial officer when he raided a club on the occupied world B-bel to intimidate Loi'e, but the rebels were able to escape.
