Brom Titus

Brom Titus, a human male, held positions of both admiral and commander within the Galactic Empire's navy. Sometime before the Battle of Yavin, Titus commanded the Imperial Interdictor, an experimental Interdictor class vessel being tested by the Empire in the Del Zennis system. He utilized the ship's gravity well projectors to intercept rebel ships exiting hyperspace. Titus successfully captured Phoenix Cell's Commander Jun Sato and Jedi Padawan Ezra Bridger, but Kanan Jarrus and Captain Rex, disguised as stormtroopers, rescued them. The rebels then manipulated the gravity well projectors to pull in all nearby ships, including Arquitens-class command cruisers, destroying the Interdictor, although Titus escaped in an escape pod.

Following this setback, Titus was demoted and given command of Reklam Station. Ezra later destroyed this station after Phoenix Squadron stole several Y-wing starfighters from it. Subsequently, he was placed in command of the Arquitens-class command cruiser, the Marauder. Titus and his ship encountered Ezra, Chopper, and Sabine Wren at the Jalindi relay as they attempted to hack it. During the ensuing conflict, Saw Gerrera and Edrio arrived and destroyed the relay, also destroying the Marauder and killing Titus.

Biography

The Imperial Interdictor debacle

As an Admiral within the Imperial Navy, Brom Titus was in command of the Imperial Interdictor. This experimental starship was armed with four gravity well projectors capable of extracting vessels from [hyperspace](/article/hyperspace]. Adhering to Imperial procedures, Titus stationed his warship in the Del Zennis system, designated as an Imperial testing zone. On one occasion, the Imperial Interdictor under Titus' command intercepted a patrol from Phoenix Cell, a component of a larger rebel movement opposing the Galactic Empire.

Commander Jun Sato, the squadron's leader, responded by traveling on the CR90 corvette Liberator to investigate the disappearance of the rebel patrol. Accompanying Sato was the young Jedi Padawan Ezra Bridger, dispatched by Hera Syndulla to assist Sato. Sensing Sato's ship, Titus' Imperial Interdictor pulled the rebel corvette out of hyperspace. After disabling the ship's systems, the Interdictor pulled the Liberator into its ventral hangar bay, where the crew were captured by Titus' [stormtroopers](/article/stormtrooper].

Admiral Titus then directed his stormtroopers to escort Commander Sato and Ezra to the Interdictor's command bridge. Sato attempted to deceive Titus by claiming that he and his crew were affiliated with the Corporate Alliance, and criticized the Admiral for their unlawful detention. Titus, however, remained unfazed by Sato's ruse and identified him as the commander of a growing rebel cell. Titus then shifted his attention to Ezra, who claimed to be Jabba the Hutt. Disbelieving the boy's claims, Titus stated that he recognized him as Ezra Bridger, thanks to the chosen alias. Titus then instructed his men to escort the prisoners to secure holding cells.

Admiral Titus during the Interdictor debacle

Subsequently, the Admiral utilized a hologram to inform Imperial Security Bureau Agent Kallus about the capture of Commander Sato and Bridger. Kallus, having encountered Ezra on multiple occasions, cautioned Titus to confine him in a secure holding cell with triple guard. Despite Kallus' warnings, Titus dismissed the notion that a young boy could pose a threat to the Imperial Navy. Unbeknownst to Titus, the rebels Kanan Jarrus, Rex, and Chopper had infiltrated the Imperial Interdictor, disguised as stormtroopers and an Imperial communications droid, respectively. Meanwhile, Bridger managed to overpower his captors and lock them in his cell.

Upon learning of Ezra's escape, Admiral Titus ordered his crew to seal off all levels of the Imperial Interdictor and secure the ship's hangar bays. He also authorized his men to kill Bridger on sight, not wanting to validate Agent Kallus' concerns about underestimating him. The Admiral's situation worsened when he received reports that other attackers were impersonating security personnel, and that the rebels had also infiltrated the reactor core controlling the gravity well projectors. Despite these challenges, Titus' stormtroopers managed to capture one prisoner, whom the Admiral identified as a clone trooper. He confirmed Rex's identity after scanning his number.

Admiral Titus had Rex brought to the command bridge, where he attempted to negotiate with him. He commended Rex and his kind for establishing peace in the galaxy, and expressed disappointment that the former clone was collaborating with the rebellion. The Admiral then offered Rex immunity and reinstatement at an Imperial training academy if he convinced his rebel comrades to surrender. However, Rex refused to cooperate with the Empire. In response, Titus ordered two of his stormtroopers to restrain the prisoner while an Imperial interrogation droid tortured the Clone veteran.

After a brief pause, Titus ordered the torture droid to resume its assault on Rex. Before it could act, Kanan, who had infiltrated the bridge disguised as a stormtrooper, destroyed the interrogator droid with his blaster. Instead of confronting the intruders, the Admiral instructed his stormtroopers to engage them before retreating into a separate chamber. After neutralizing Titus' men, Kanan freed Rex, and the two rebels escaped the Imperial Interdictor in an escape pod. They rejoined their rebel comrades, who had fled aboard Commander Sato's corvette. In response to the prisoners' escape, Titus ordered his crew to activate the Imperial Interdictor's gravity well projectors. On the verge of success, the gravity well projectors malfunctioned due to sabotage by Chopper, causing the Interdictor's escort Arquitens-class command cruisers to collide with the Interdictor.

Titus' warship was destroyed in the resulting explosion, but the Admiral managed to escape in an escape pod. Meanwhile, the rebels escaped into hyperspace. Shortly afterward, Agent Kallus arrived in a Sentinel-class landing craft accompanied by several Imperial Star Destroyers. When the Admiral contacted Kallus via hologram to inform him of his predicament, Kallus smugly inquired if he had encountered any difficulties with Ezra. In response, Titus nodded in embarrassment.

Reklam Station

Titus was assigned to Reklam Station.

Following his failure to safeguard the Interdictor, Titus was demoted from Admiral to Commander. He was then reassigned to Reklam Station, a scrapyard located in the atmosphere of the gas planet of Yarma, where obsolete BTL-A4 Y-wing assault starfighter/bombers were being dismantled. Commander Titus oversaw a workforce comprising Ugnaught laborers and DTS-series Dismantler Droids. One of the Ugnaught laborers, Terba, attempted to escape but was apprehended and subsequently imprisoned at the Imperial prison on Naraka. There, Terba encountered the Weequay pirate Hondo Ohnaka, who informed the Phoenix rebels about the Y-wings at Reklam Station. Seeking to acquire starfighters, the rebels dispatched a team led by Ezra Bridger to surveil the base. Upon discovering that the Y-wings were being actively scrapped, Ezra decided to alter the mission objective and salvage the fighters.

One of the Imperial dismantler droids detected the rebels' ship, the Phantom, and alerted Commander Titus. In response to the perimeter breach, Titus' subordinate officer activated the dismantler droids and dispatched them after the rebel ship. After losing contact with the dismantler droids and the Phantom, Titus contacted Governor Arihnda Pryce, who had previously warned him about the rebels. Despite his efforts, the rebels managed to destroy the dismantler droids and infiltrate Reklam Station. They then persuaded the local Ugnaught workforce to assist them in stealing the fighters in exchange for their freedom. When the conveyor belt system malfunctioned, Titus contacted Laborer 429 and threatened to throw him off the station if he did not restart the machine.

Titus being threatened by Bridger

After one of the Imperial dismantler droids spotted the rebels, Titus activated the magnetic locks on the Y-wings and sent a squad of stormtroopers to eliminate them. While Rex defeated the last dismantler droid, Ezra defeated Titus' stormtroopers and made his way up to the control room. By this stage, Titus had established contact with Governor Pryce, who ordered him to contain the rebels until reinforcements arrived. Shortly afterwards, Ezra stormed the command room and defeated Titus' guards. The two quickly recognized each other from their earlier encounter aboard the Imperial Interdictor. Seeing a chance to regain his former status by capturing the rebels, Titus rejected Ezra's demand that he release the magnetic locks. He attempted to shoot the boy with his blaster, but Ezra destroyed it with his lightsaber. In an attempt to discourage Ezra, Titus claimed that he had disabled the control unit and that the only to free the ship was to shut down all power to the station, which would kill everyone aboard. However, Ezra was undaunted and moved to destroy the generator. Titus tried to stop him from doing so, claiming that he would be doing everyone a favor, but Ezra destroyed it, stating that he was confident in his friends' ability to escape, but not him. Titus ordered an evacuation of the station, then ran off to try and escape, which he successfully did.

Chimaera

Titus was later observed aboard the Chimaera, escorted away from the office of Grand Admiral Thrawn by a pair of stormtroopers, alongside Captains Brunson and Slavin. The Grand Admiral had interviewed the three as part of his investigation into the identity of a rebel spy within the local Imperial ranks. They were passed by Lieutenant Yogar Lyste and Agent Kallus. Lyste referred to the trio as officers of the Lothal Sector's Command staff.

The Jalindi relay

In 1 BBY, Titus, now in command of the Arquitens-class cruiser Marauder, arrived at the planet Jalindi to inspect the Imperial relay there. His arrival coincided with the Spectres undertaking a mission to infiltrate the relay, enabling the Rebel Alliance to monitor Imperial transmissions through the station. Ezra, Sabine Wren, and Chopper were positioned on the relay's dish when the Marauder arrived, forcing them to conceal themselves behind the dish's main antenna.

When Chopper, following Sabine's instructions, attempted to access the relay's secondary comm system, he inadvertently breached the main communications channel, intercepting all transmissions to the station, including one from the Marauder. Titus was requesting docking clearance from the outpost. Sabine instructed Chopper to connect the Marauder to the relay to avoid suspicion, but Ezra proposed an alternative plan, impersonating the relay's commander over the comm. Adopting an accent, he claimed that the Marauder was not expected until the following rotation, and that their early arrival was causing complications. Ezra concluded by requesting the ship to return the next day.

When Titus demanded identification, Ezra claimed to be "Commander Brom Titus." Disbelieving, Titus demanded an explanation; when none was provided, he ordered the relay dish to be tilted, exposing Ezra and Sabine to the view of the Marauder's bridge. Seeing Ezra waving through electrobinoculars, Titus was enraged and dispatched stormtroopers onto the dish. As Ezra and Sabine fought the troopers, with Sabine attempting to plant detonators on the dish, the Ghost arrived to extract them. In response, Titus launched his cruiser's two TIE/d "Defender" Multi-Role Starfighters, forcing the rebel vessel to retreat. As the Ghost evaded the fighters in the mist and rock pillars below, another rebel ship, a U-wing belonging to Saw Gerrera's extremist Partisans, arrived and attacked Titus' cruiser, disabling its deflector shields. Before Titus could react, Gerrera dropped several proton bombs onto the relay's dish, inviting Ezra, Sabine, and Chopper aboard his ship. Titus, failing to notice the proton bombs, ordered the Marauder to pursue the U-Wing. By the time the cruiser was in position, the bombs detonated, creating an explosion that engulfed the cruiser and killed Titus, along with his crew.

Personality and traits

Titus after being demoted

Admiral Brom Titus was an aloof and conceited male Imperial Navy officer who took pride in his experimental Imperial Interdictor and aimed to utilize it against the growing rebellion. While Titus was not deceived by Commander Sato and Ezra Bridger's pretenses, he underestimated the young Bridger and refused to acknowledge that the teenager could pose a threat to the entire Imperial Navy. Titus was also cruel and prepared to torture Rex to death for rejecting his offer of rejoining the Empire.

As a result of his failure to prevent the Lothal rebels and Rex from destroying the Imperial Interdictor, Titus was demoted to Commander and reassigned to managing the Imperial junkyard at Reklam Station. He was tasked with supervising a workforce consisting of Ugnaught laborers. Based on his conversation with Laborer 429, Titus appeared to possess some understanding of the Ugnaught language. Titus appeared to be a strict supervisor and threatened to throw 429 off of Reklam Station if he did not repair the malfunction. Despite this, Titus showed at least some interest in the crew's and laborers' fate when he ordered the evacuation of the Station, instead of immediately fleeing.

Since the incident on the experimental Interdictor, Titus desired to regain his former rank and sought revenge against Ezra. Titus was visibly angered when Ezra impersonated him at the Jalindi relay and sought to eliminate the young rebel, believing that his capture and execution would restore him to his previous status. However, Titus would never succeed as he was ambushed and killed by Saw Gerrera, the leader of the extremist Partisans, ending his failing career and ultimately his life.

Skills and abilities

Despite being a high-ranking Imperial Military officer, Brom Titus appeared to lack combat skills. When ambushed by the Jedi Kanan, who had arrived to rescue his comrade Rex, Titus did not stand his ground and instead fled to another chamber while ordering his men to kill the intruders. On another occasion, he attempted to repel Ezra with his blaster, but the young Jedi destroyed his weapon with his lightsaber and knocked him to the ground.

Behind the scenes

Brom Titus debuted in the ninth episode of the second season of Star Wars Rebels, "Stealth Strike," and was voiced by Derek Partridge. He later reappeared in the third season's premiere episode Star Wars Rebels: Steps Into Shadow, as well as in the fourth season episode "In the Name of the Rebellion." Throughout his appearances, a recurring joke emerged about his progressively lower rank with each subsequent appearance.
