Overseer (Imperial-class)

title: Overseer

The Overseer was an Imperial-class Star Destroyer constructed at the renowned Kuat Drive Yards for service within the Imperial Navy. Later in its service life, it became the distinguished flagship of the elite Titan Squadron. This Star Destroyer achieved significant victories at both Jeyell and Pothor, notably destroying numerous Nebulon-B escort frigates at Jeyell despite facing a numerical disadvantage. The vessel subsequently mounted a defense against the forces of the New Republic at the Var-Shaa dockyard, sustaining substantial damage in the process. Despite this, it successfully evaded its New Republic pursuers to search for survivors of the engagement. Due to the extensive damage incurred, the Star Destroyer underwent a refit before being redeployed to active duty.

The Overseer once had an escort consisting of three Arquitens-class command cruisers, four Raider-class corvettes, and a pair of Gozanti-class cruisers.

History

Early deployments

During the period of the Galactic Civil War, the Overseer participated in engagements at both Pothor and Jeyell.

Var-Shaa retreat

Overseer attacked at Var-Shaa

Following the pivotal Battle of Endor, the Defense Fleet of the New Republic launched an offensive against the Imperial dockyards in orbit around the planet Var-Shaa. The assault resulted in significant Imperial losses, including a Star Destroyer and the complete destruction of the dockyard facility. Captain Terisa Kerrill issued the order to retreat. However, Titan Leader, Captain Varko Grey, was unable to board the Overseer before it entered lightspeed. He was later rescued by Imperial reinforcements after the New Republic fleet had departed.

Mission to end Project Starhawk

Admiral Rae Sloane briefs Captain Terisa Kerrill on the Overseer

After the Battle of Var-Shaa, the Overseer served as the flagship for a fleet operating within the Talcene System. During this period, a series of attacks on Star Destroyers drew the attention of Admiral Rae Sloane. Based on intelligence suggesting the involvement of Project Starhawk and Commander Lindon Javes, Sloane assigned Kerrill the task of locating and destroying Project Starhawk, given her past connection with Javes before his defection. Kerrill's forces, with the Overseer at the forefront, were tasked with this mission.

Starling the convoy at Desevro

Following the deployment of Titan Squadron for the mission to Hosnian Prime, the Overseer took part in an attack targeting a New Republic convoy. The objective was to acquire intelligence regarding the location of Project Starhawk. The mission faced early interference from the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Tormentor, prompting Captain Kerrill to intervene with the Overseer. She deployed shuttles carrying boarding parties to extract intelligence from transports disabled by Titan Squadron. Despite Captain Amos's actions, the mission succeeded in retrieving the sector coordinates for Project Starhawk from the convoy.

Ambushed at the Zavian Abyss

The Overseer ambushed in the Zavian Abyss

Subsequent to the Desevro operation, the Overseer was drawn into an ambush battle within the Zavian Abyss. This was a New Republic attempt to thwart its search for Project Starhawk. During the engagement, the New Republic revealed their prototype Starhawk-class battleship Starhawk, which utilized its powerful tractor beam to seize the Overseer and propel it into nearby asteroids, resulting in damage to the Star Destroyer. However, LT-514 successfully scanned the New Republic convoy's navicomputer, obtaining the sector and system coordinates for Project Starhawk. Kerrill ordered a retreat and initiated a jump to lightspeed.

Repairs in the Remitik system

A damaged Overseer arrives in the Remitik system

Following the damage sustained in the Zavian Abyss, the Overseer emerged from hyperspace in the Remitik system and was compelled to seek repairs and resupply from the nearby Imperial munitions depot, under the command of Colonel Gralm. Gralm refused their request, instead ordering Kerrill's forces to assist in defending the depot against rebel guerrillas. Dissatisfied with this arrangement, Kerrill directed Titan Squadron to patrol the depot and scan for munitions that could be seized. They discovered baradium aboard a pair of Zeta-class Heavy Cargo Shuttles. During an attack by the New Republic, the baradium shuttles were remotely piloted back to the Overseer while Gralm was preoccupied. With the shuttles secured, the Overseer departed the system, leaving behind an enraged Gralm.

Devastation at Mon Cala

The Overseer destroys the Silver Coronet

Admiral Rae Sloane devised a strategy to divert the attention of the Nadiri fleet by launching multiple strikes on various locations. This was intended to draw the New Republic fleet away from the Nadiri Dockyards, making them vulnerable to an attack led by Kerrill. Kerrill tasked Titan Squadron with targeting Mon Cala in a swift strike. The Overseer arrived late in the battle, contributing to the destruction of the Silver Coronet.

Attack at Nadiri Dockyards

The Overseer at the Nadiri Dockyards

Following the successful strike on Mon Cala, the New Republic Defense Fleet was dispersed from the Nadiri Dockyards, leaving them open to an assault. The Overseer deployed Titan Squadron to target the shield generators and hangars, weakening the dockyard's defenses. This was followed by a Baradium missile attack on the Starhawk, which crippled its hyperdrive. As the Overseer launched a final missile volley, it was intercepted by the Temperance at the last moment, resulting in damage to its hyperdrive. With the return of the New Republic fleet, Kerrill ordered the Overseer and Titan Squadron to withdraw.

Traps in the debris field

The Overseer deploys Titan Squadron to Sissubo's debris field

After crippling both the Starhawk and the Temperance at the Nadiri Dockyards, the Overseer deployed Titan Squadron to attack the fleet of General Hera Syndulla, which had departed the dockyards for Chandrila and was navigating through Sissubo's debris field. Abandoned Star Destroyer cores within the debris field were utilized as traps, targeting waves of corvettes and a Nebulon-B frigate as they passed through, resulting in their destruction. The remaining New Republic vessels altered their course towards the Ringali Nebula.

Battle of Galitan

The Overseer attacks the Starhawk

After forcing General Syndulla's fleet into the Ringali Nebula, the New Republic forces were cornered near the moon Galitan. Admiral Sloane dispatched reinforcements from her fleet to support Kerrill's mission to eliminate the rebels. The Overseer participated in an attack alongside Titan Squadron on the damaged Starhawk, defended by Anvil Squadron. Titan Squadron successfully breached the defenses and damaged the Starhawk's tractor beam core, ensuring its destruction. Imperial defector Lindon Javes arrived to engage but was defeated by one of Titan's pilots. Kerrill, satisfied with the mission's success, ordered all Imperial ships to disengage. While the remaining Imperial forces remained to eliminate the New Republic forces, Titan Squadron returned to the Overseer, and they jumped to hyperspace. All other Imperial forces were annihilated when Syndulla sacrificed the Starhawk by crashing it into the moon's exposed core. The subsequent explosion and shockwave destroyed all remaining ships.
