Seyn Marana

Seyn Marana, a human female, was in the service of the Galactic Empire. Possessing an eidetic memory, Marana had a distinctive skill set that included expertise as a cryptologist, fluency in 29 languages, and exceptional abilities in surveillance. She was also a highly skilled sharpshooter. Having graduated early from the Imperial Academy of Uyter, she first served with the Naval Intelligence Agency prior to her assignment to the Empire's newly formed Inferno Squad, alongside Iden Versio, Del Meeko, and Gideon Hask. This squad was established in 0 BBY in the wake of the destruction of the Death Star.

During Inferno Squad's execution of numerous missions against rebel partisans, the squad ultimately went undercover to infiltrate a partisan cell known as the Dreamers. Marana's role was to impersonate a slave working for an Imperial spy named Rudaga, and she was eventually rescued by the rebels, who then welcomed her into their ranks. Meanwhile, Marana's teammates infiltrated the rebel cell separately and commenced their covert efforts to dismantle the Dreamers. Shortly after a failed mission on Anukara, where Marana was unable to prevent the sacrifice of the rebel Sadori Vushan, with whom she had begun to develop feelings, Marana inadvertently blew her cover. As the Dreamers prepared to execute her, her squadmates were unable to intervene without revealing their own identities. The rebel leader Staven urged Iden to kill Marana using a vibroblade, and Marana willingly ran into the blade, accepting her death. Her squadmates would soon complete their mission and eliminate the Dreamers.

Biography

Early career

Around 20 BBY, Seyn Marana, a female human, was born. During the [Imperial Era](/article/imperial_era], Marana was a student at the Imperial Academy located on the planet of Uyter. Endowed with an eidetic memory, Marana was a highly skilled cryptologist and possessed the ability to speak 29 languages, while also being proficient in writing in seven additional ones. Moreover, she was a sharpshooter capable of eliminating targets from distances exceeding five kilometers. Her exceptional abilities allowed her to graduate a year ahead of schedule, earning top honors in her class. Following her graduation, she served in the Empire's Naval Intelligence Agency, focusing on surveillance, a field in which her eidetic memory proved to be a significant asset.

Joining Inferno Squad

After the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY, Marana was deeply focused on her duties following the Death Star's destruction. The loss of the battlestation profoundly affected Marana, and she dedicated herself to her work in its immediate aftermath. A few days after the event, her assistant, Ensign Jastin Vrayn, informed her that she had received a message from Admiral Garrick Versio. She knew of Versio and had collaborated with him on some cross-faction cases, but she had never personally met or interacted with him and was surprised that he knew her name. Nevertheless, she understood that the message would be of great importance.

Marana arrived at Versio's office and introduced herself to Senior Lieutenant Iden Versio and Lieutenants Del Meeko and Gideon Hask, who had also been summoned. Garrick entered the room and immediately directed their attention to the holoprojector in the center of the table, where they were shown footage of the Death Star's destruction. While watching the footage, Marana's eyes widened and her lips parted in shock. Versio explained that he had assembled them because he was forming a team and believed that the four of them represented the best the Empire had to offer. He commended Marana for her accomplishments at the Imperial Academy of Uyter, her linguistic skills, and her eidetic memory. Despite her lack of combat experience during her time at NavInt, Admiral Versio trusted her abilities and considered her a valuable addition to the team. The new team's objective would be to retrieve information, artifacts, or individuals that could pose a threat to the Empire if they fell into enemy hands.

Versio instructed each member to devise a plan for their upcoming first mission, and the agent whose plan was chosen would be appointed squad leader, a position that ultimately went to Iden. Marana inquired whether they were permitted to discuss their ideas among themselves and share the information they had received. After a moment of consideration, Versio approved the idea. Before the team departed for their accommodations at the Diplomat Hotel on Coruscant, Versio informed them that they would be known as Inferno Squad.

In the hotel, Marana informed the team that while their conversations within the lift were not recorded, their images were. She cautioned them that many secrets were discussed that people did not want overheard. Upon entering their shared suite, Marana was impressed to see that the propaganda posters adorning the walls were created by Iden's mother, Zeehay Versio. As the new squad settled in, Marana asked Iden if she thought the assignment was difficult given that her father was the commanding officer, but she dismissed the notion. As they began to bond over a bottle of Alderaanian Toniray wine provided by Versio, Marana joked that they could sell the bottle and make a fortune. Each member proposed a toast to their new team, and Marana delivered hers in the Ahak Maharr language, a guttural, deep-pitched language characterized by the sound of Marana clicking her teeth together. When the other three members looked at her with concern, Marana smiled broadly at their reactions. She explained that the speech translated to "May we rend the flesh of our enemies, and drink their blood as we do this liquid before us." Hask was greatly impressed and asked Marana to teach it to him, but she replied that it was difficult to pronounce Ahak Maharr without tusks. She relaxed into the night with the exceedingly rare wine and chatted easily with Meeko.

The following morning, Marana joined the team in the suite wearing her impeccable NavInt uniform before heading to Versio's conference room. There, he commended each member of the squad for their reports and praised Marana for her intelligence-backed knowledge of the situation. After confirming that Iden's report was his preferred choice, Iden was named squad leader, and Marana and the team were provided with the plan for their first mission.

Initial missions

Admiral Versio tasked Inferno Squad with infiltrating the wedding of Famma Pereez, the daughter of Moff Jaccun Pereez, on Arvaka Prime to retrieve sensitive Imperial information that the moff intended to sell. Marana and Hask were to pose as a couple at the wedding, with Marana having to wear an exquisite pale-purple shimmersilk gown, much to her displeasure as she disliked dresses. As she finished getting dressed and prepared for the mission, she thought that her plan of confronting Pereez with forged documents that implicated him in wrongdoing that would land him in serious trouble was a better option. Marana had forged the wedding invitations in advance, and Meeko had managed to conceal recording devices throughout the moff's mansion by posing as a member of the event decoration team. She warned Hask not to overdo it as he offered her his hand to join the wedding, but she accepted it nonetheless, along with their wedding gift of sunfruit liquor which she had laced with ten milligrams of deraformine—which Marana referred to as the life-after-death drug. The drug's effects would make it appear as if the moff had died, though he would fully recover after a short time, allowing Marana and Hask to locate and extract the information they were after. With earpieces inserted deep into their ear canals, the pair entered the wedding without incident, where she assumed the identity of Lady Dezara Monay. Marana had created backstories for both her character and Hask's pseudonym, Brixx Gavan. She made sure they were detailed enough for small talk but simple enough to remember.

They proceeded to the VIP area of the event and were met by a serving droid that Meeko had reprogrammed to assist them. Marana quietly instructed the droid to shadow the moff. They were greeted by Sind Reloran, one of the groomsmen, to whom Marana presented the liquor, suggesting that the moff use it to make a toast at some point. The pair made their way to the moff's library, where Meeko had hidden a small security code descrambler. After Hask located it, Marana confirmed that Pereez had been presented with the sunfruit liquor. She told Hask that the moff was likely struggling not to immediately consume the rare alcohol, adding that they did not need him to, but it would create a welcome distraction if he did.

Marana flew as Inferno Four

Marana understood the most prudent action Pereez could have taken involved storing sensitive documents in an accessible offsite location. She also considered that the next best course of action would be to conceal them in an unexpected place, but she recognized people are creatures of habit, prone to laziness, and drawn to the familiar. Consequently, she deduced the moff likely kept a safe containing the information within his private office. As Pereez imbibed the alcohol, the pair proceeded to the main bedroom where, after using the descrambler to open the moff's safe, they discovered it was empty. Meeko urged them to continue searching near the safe, and Marana found the datachip hidden behind a painting depicting a young Famma. She secreted the chip within her gown's bodice and, along with Hask, prepared to depart. By this point, Pereez had succumbed to the drug's effects, and a guard intercepted the pair before they could leave. However, Marana incapacitated him with a forceful uppercut, much to Hask's amusement. Shedding her high heels, Marana dashed to the squad's shuttle with the datachip and the intelligence they had come to retrieve. Iden commended them on a successful operation, although Marana confessed to feeling sympathy for the moff, remarking that they had disrupted his daughter's wedding day.

Following the triumph of their initial assignment, Marana and the rest of Inferno Squad received promotions, granting her the designation of Agent. They were also given the Corvus, which would serve as their mobile headquarters, and Dio, an ID10 seeker droid. Marana was taken aback after a brief examination of the ship's databases, telling Admiral Versio that the squad had benefited from his experience and expressing her gratitude.

In the following weeks, Marana dedicated herself to studying the latest intelligence reports between missions. The missions that followed Arvaka Prime were generally short-term and could be completed within a few hours if executed effectively. During these missions, Meeko and Iden expressed surprise at the behaviors of certain Imperials, but Marana explained that this was not unusual, stating that her extensive experience in intelligence had exposed her to many unexpected things.

Infiltrating the Dreamers

Tellik Four Station extraction

Versio summoned the team and briefed them on their upcoming mission: infiltrating a partisan group known as the Dreamers, composed of survivors from Saw Gerrera's Partisans. During the meeting, Marana validated Iden's classified information that the incident on Jedha prior to the Battle of Scarif was not a mining accident, but rather the initial test of the Death Star, specifically intended to eliminate Gerrera and his partisans. She confirmed that while Gerrera and many of his partisans perished during the test, NavInt had evidence that some individual partisans were not present on the planet at the time. Versio emphatically informed his team that the Dreamers had obtained highly confidential information that they were using to target the Empire. The squad was tasked with extracting Bokk Naarg, a Sullustan partisan who claimed to possess information regarding the Dreamers' intelligence sources, from Tellik Four Station.

Hask was assigned the task of entering the Singularity Club at the trading post and gaining Naarg's confidence, while Marana monitored from the Corvus at Bay 47. She informed the others that several Imperial officers frequented the club and NavInt had been collecting information to use for blackmail purposes if disciplinary action was ever required. When Hask inquired why Inferno Squad was given the mission instead of the Sullustan's existing Imperial contact, Marana stated bluntly that the agent had multiple contacts and they could not risk compromising his identity, adding that she felt Hask did not fully understand the complexities of espionage.

Upon Naarg's arrival with an unexpected entourage, Marana observed that their jewelry could potentially conceal explosives, as partisan suicide attacks were becoming increasingly common. Marana continued to monitor the club's patrons, but grew concerned when Naarg insisted that his Pantoran accomplice Sharima also needed to be extracted. She demanded that Iden abort the mission, as it was deviating from the agreed-upon plan, but the order was denied. Her finely-tuned instincts warned her that they were walking into a trap. Her suspicions were confirmed when another of Naarg's accomplices realized that Hask might be an Imperial attempting to recruit Naarg. She relayed this information to Hask as Iden, disguised in stormtrooper armor, headed to Hask to assist with his extraction and escape.

After Dio recovered a datachip containing a portion of Naarg's intelligence, Marana provided remote support to aid Iden and Hask in their escape. Upon her comrades' return to the ship, tensions escalated as Iden reprimanded Hask for disobeying a direct order, which resulted in Naarg's death during the chaos. Marana added angrily that the mission had gone awry the moment Naarg arrived with an entourage and that it should have been aborted immediately. She believed that their actions had jeopardized the safety of other undercover agents who had gained Naarg's trust. When Hask retorted that the agents would be safe now that multiple partisans were dead, Marana argued that his point was irrelevant, as the mission's objective was to extract Naarg in order to obtain information from him. She asserted that the mission had been a failure, except for the survival of two Imperial officers in the blast that killed the Sullustan. Marana was able to examine the data on the chip and concluded that they had not returned empty-handed, although Iden scolded her for demanding the mission's abortion twice before conceding that Marana's analysis of the situation had been correct. However, the incident would become widely known across the galaxy.

Beginning the mission

Following their unsuccessful mission, Admiral Versio assigned Inferno Squad to directly infiltrate the Dreamers base. The four Imperial agents would be separated and infiltrate the partisans with different fabricated backgrounds. Marana expressed visible discomfort with the idea and inquired of Versio why Inferno Squad was being sent ahead of Imperial Security Bureau agents. After questioning Marana's ability to handle the task, he responded that Inferno Squad's combined experience with weapons, vessels, and combat made them the ideal team to complete the mission. He informed the squad that the Dreamers were planning to attack Otor's Hub, a space station located in the Ojostor sector of the Outer Rim Territories, and eliminate the handful of merchants known to be spying for the Empire, including Rudaga, the Dug proprietor of an antique store. The Dug would be informed that Marana was to join him in his store as an undercover operative. Posing as his slave, he would teach her enough about the business that the Dreamers would not suspect her when they arrived. Versio told her that she would inform the Dreamers that she had been trained in forgery by Rudaga, and her story of mistreatment would ensure the partisans rescued her from her enslavement. Marana was reminded that she would require her body to be altered to corroborate her story, a commonplace necessity for undercover operations. She allowed her body to receive scarification and other symbols of abuse under the guise of Shum Laudor, a specialist recommended by Versio.

Undercover on Otor's Hub

Marana spent much of her time in Rudaga's shop honing her forgery skills, but suspected the Dug enjoyed having a slave to do his bidding. She had researched him before she arrived and believed he had become a liability who would not be missed when he died. To further validate her backstory, Versio dispatched spies to the station, and Marana would provide them with datachips to return to NavInt. She amused herself by loading the chips with false information that would be useless to anyone who attempted to decipher the code.

Eventually, the Dreamers arrived at the station—the day that Marana had been anticipating. She had spent several hours in simulators and completed numerous live-fire exercises, but her field experience was limited. She was eager to transition from watching vidscreens to actively participating in the action. As the partisans opened fire on their targets within the station, Rudaga anxiously inquired whether their arrival was part of her cover. She lied and confirmed that it was, instructing him to wait in his office with his Trandoshan security guards for his safety. As the cowardly Dug hurried to his office, Marana caught one final whiff of his old-cheese odor and knew the galaxy would be better off without him.

With the Dug gone, Marana slipped into her slave persona and stumbled toward the front of the shop, tripping on an old statuette of the Voolukarian fertility god Kuk'waibi. Kuk;waibi;s stone Spear of Desire pierced her arm, and she used the pain to bring tears to her eyes. Reaching the front of the store, she surveyed the area while maintaining a look of wild panic on her face. She saw three partisans—a male Kage, a Twi'lek female, and a human male—heading towards her, and she hurried in their direction when they approached close enough. With tears in her eyes and the neckline of her tunic revealing an explosive shock collar around her throat, she shouted to the Dreamers that their target, Rudaga, was in his office. With a precision that surprised Marana, the partisans moved in and swiftly eliminated Rudaga and his guards before moving on. Marana followed them as they moved through the station, traversing a sea of corpses, and eventually begged them to let her join them.

The Twi'lek, Dahna, instructed Marana to head to their ship where a Chadra-Fan named Piikow would remove her collar. The human partisan, Kaev attempted to prevent her from boarding the ship, but Marana played on her cover story and pleaded with them. Dahna overruled him and brought her onboard, where Piikow successfully removed the collar before the partisans departed the station in their ship. Onboard, Dahla scolded Kaev for not following orders, a move that surprised Marana, as she had always perceived Twi'leks as gentle and kind. During the flight, Dahla showed Marana the small explosive orbs and detonators each partisan carried with them on their missions, causing Marana to realize that every mission the group ran was a suicide mission. She offered the "slave" a ration cube, a container of nutritive milk, and a meiloorun fruit, but Marana took only the milk and cube. Dahna stated she understood Marana's reticence and mannerisms, as she too had been a slave. The rest of the crew wanted to know what Marana might have done to help the Empire and what she could offer them, and Marana told them Rudaga used her knowledge of Basic to help him catalogue his stock. Dahna pressed her to reveal more information, and Marana hesitantly told them she had a steady hand and sharp eye, and the Dug forced her to create forgeries to make stolen items look legitimate. She also told the partisans that she was proficient Huttese, but knew no other languages besides that and Basic. Dahna said they would take her back to their base and test her forgery skills, and when asking if Marana knew who they were, the Imperial said she assumed they were rebels. The Twi'lek confirmed they were the Dreamers and they would take her in.

In a quiet moment, Dahna acknowledged the scars and bruises that Marana carried and asked whether she had tried to kill Rudaga. Marana confirmed she had not, but she would have liked to. Dahna told her not to think like that, as that kind of killing was personal and ugly, but said what the Dreamers, and Marana, were doing was different, as they aimed to end the Empire that allowed atrocities to happen to people like them. She snarled that the Empire's actions were in service to themselves only and that Marana should not forget that. With Dahna's treasonous words burned into her memory, she smiled at the Twi'lek and earnestly told her she would not.

Jeosyn

Upon arriving at the Dreamers encampment, Marana was interrogated and examined by the group and their leader, Staven. Shortly after, the three other members of Inferno Squad joined the Dreamers' ranks, with Meeko and Hask posing as two brothers and Iden joining under the guise of being a defector. Marana continued to go by Seyn and was assigned multiple jobs forging documents by Staven, passing all her tests with flying colors, demonstrating a believable level of familiarity with computers and forgery, and turning out high-quality faked documents.

Dahna and Nadrine, a human partisan, quickly took a liking to Marana due to her delicate and deceptively open, innocent appearance, and Sadori Vushan, the male Kage warrior, was quickly attracted to her. She found the mysterious Mentor to be puzzling, as he was trusted and liked by the group but never participated in missions.

She had advised her Inferno Squad comrades against wearing communication devices of any sort due to the Dreamers' potential access to cutting-edge technology, so their early communications were minimal until Meeko was able to amend their comlinks discreetly. Immediately after receiving her updated device, she contacted Meeko to inform him of a crucial piece of information she had learned. When Iden arrived after being rescued by Azen Novaren, who had been undercover as an Imperial for the Dreamers, Marana's eidetic memory allowed her to realize who he was. He was the disgruntled ISB agent Lar Kantayan, and Marana realized that it was likely he was operating on his own since she recalled his file saying he had multiple failures and was not recommended to be sent into service again. After eventually alerting Iden of the situation, Iden planned to set up Azen and expose him.

While the squad awaited the opportunity to eliminate Azen, Marana found herself growing impatient during the mission, and Sadori sensed it. The two shared many conversations about their emotions, and she felt an unexpectedly soft feeling when Sadori opened up about his and his parent's, Ru and Halia Vushan's, fears when he departed on missions. She began to use his feelings to her advantage, holding his hand and continuing to talk with him despite their need to continue working, in an effort to have him open up further about the partisans. He would bring her Dahna fruit and dance with her during downtime within the group.

Framing an Agent

Before the group's Mission to Affadar to expose the planet's duplicitous epoch Emoch Akagarti, Marana provided Meeko with a datapad containing everything she knew about Azen, including code names, alternate identities, and images. Meeko would then create fake conversations between Azen and an Imperial Intelligence officer to frame him. After handing him the datapad, she reminded Meeko that the Dreamers were the enemy after he showed concern for Piikow's failing health.

Sadori later took her to a grotto a short speeder ride from the base, telling her he had been wanting to show her the location. She was initially internally hesitant, comparing her situation of having to pretend to be romantically interested in Sadori to the work her comrades were putting in. When she arrived at the cave, she gasped at its natural beauty. She and Sadori entered the grotto's water, and the pair marveled at the mystical and ethereal bioluminescence in the darkness. Sadori told her that he wanted to visit the cave with Marana as they were soon going on their first mission together and wanted to experience the beauty with her in case something went wrong. As the pair stood together in the water, Marana felt unwilling to leave as they listened to the sounds of the grotto and watched the glowing blue creatures dancing in the water.

During the Affadar operation, which claimed the lives of Nadrine and Kaev, Hask framed Azen for planting a homing device on the Jinata Security ship the Dreamers had used during the mission. When the group returned to the base, thanks to Marana's intel and Meeko's work in creating falsified information, Azen was deemed a traitor and tortured to death.

Later that evening, Iden assigned each of them to get close to the Dreamers, and Marana's task was to continue ingratiating with Sadori and his family. Before the squad departed back to the base, Iden asked Marana privately if there was anything more between her and Sadori that could cause complications for the mission, but Marana told her commanding officer that she did not love Sadori any more than Hask was Staven's best friend. Iden apologized for questioning Marana's judgement and was satisfied with her agent's situation.

Mission to Anukara

Staven had previously instructed Marana to work on forging identification cards for two students at a small university—one for Sadori, and one for her—promising to fill her in on the details when the time came. The Dreamers' leader announced the next mission would be bombing a newly minted munitions factory on the planet Anukara. Marana and Sadori would go undercover as students who were visiting the new factory and would place bombs inside that would detonate and kill Moff Rys Deksha, General Ivel Toshan, and approximately four hundred schoolchildren who were on the field trip. Before the mission, Iden told Marana to follow through with the plan despite being bothered by the unnecessary civilian casualties herself, citing Admiral Versio's orders to allow Imperials to be sacrificed to ensure the eventual destruction of the Dreamers.

Preparing for the operation, Marana found herself impressed at Sadori's ability to disguise his natural skin tone and appearance with concealing cosmetics and contact lenses. She and Sadori wore suicide bombs in case of discovery, and Marana traveled with Dio, the ID10 unit disguised as a droid that helped Marana with a "medical condition." Using the documents Marana had forged prior, the pair were able to gain entry into the school.

As the mission began, Marana felt nervous as she thought of the countless agents she had sent into the field on near-identical assignments who had not returned. She held Sadori's hand as they took their seats on the transport that would take them to their destination, both wearing patches of the malleable explosives they would set. She communicated with Meeko throughout, her squadmate posing as her father.

When the tour reached the factory, Marana encountered a student named Anice. Upon learning of Marana's "medical condition," she offered her some of the chocolate she received for her birthday. Knowing the sweet was a delicacy in that part of the galaxy, Marana declined, but Anice insisted, telling her that her kid brother would eat it when she got home. Hearing that, Marana went still, knowing what the mission entailed.

When the students ended the tour in the reception area for a meet and greet with the moff and general, Marana assembled her explosive in the restroom. At this point, Marana got cold feet and decided to delay the bomb's timer from five to fifteen minutes so the students could escape, but did not inform Sadori. After they exited the building and made their way back to the ship, Sadori realized that something was wrong when the bomb did not detonate. She tried to insist nothing had gone wrong and pleaded with the Kage to return to the ship with her. He told her that he and his family had fought their whole lives for a peaceful future and he had to play his part to ensure that became a reality. She touched his cheek and told him it would be fine, her voice cracking with genuine emotion as she spoke. She thought to herself if he just stayed with her for ten more minutes, he and the children would live. With his final words to her, Sadori told Marana that he wished the future he fought for could have been with her, before kissing her passionately, and Marana reciprocated the gesture. As Sadori ran back towards the facility, Marana attempted to catch up to him before she stumbled and was collected by Meeko, who had arrived on the ship with Staven to extract the pair. Aboard the transports, they watched as Sadori's bomb exploded, killing him instantly, followed shortly by the delayed bomb Marana had set. Through her tear-filled eyes, Marana looked back down through the viewport to see the schoolchildren had escaped to safety.

Aftermath of Anukara

The following days back on Jeosyn were a blur for Marana, but she was not suspected by the Dreamers of playing a role in Sadori's death. She thought of him with pride and thought him a hero, though still felt conflicted that his final act had been to try and ensure the death of innocent children. Ru and Halia tried to comfort her and took care of her, knowing how much fondness their son had for her.

Iden tried to comfort her in private, but Marana told her that she took responsibility for the botched mission. When Iden quietly reminded her that necessary sacrifices were a part of the mission, Marana replied that she agreed with the idea but it felt different in the field. She told Iden that she would never be able to stop replaying the events in her mind, and became angry when Iden said the whole team could understand that. Marana shouted at her commanding officer to shut up as she told her that her eidetic memory meant that she would never be able to forget what happened and she would have to relive the horrible moments as Sadori sacrificed himself unnecessarily. Iden apologized to her, and the pair stood in silence looking out in the dusk of night. When they returned to the base, Ru and Halia invited Marana to share the shun-rai—the Kage funeral meal.

Discovery and death

In the week following the loss of Sadori, Marana found herself sitting with his parents to eat and hear their stories about Sadori as a child. She would smile at their words and wished Sadori was there to be teased by those who cared for him, though she reminded herself that she was not Sadori's love but a member of an elite squadron who still had a duty to perform.

Eventually, Staven provided her with work to complete, which she found comforting as she focused on his forgeries and eavesdropping on conversations within the base. One evening, while listening in on a conversation between Dahna, Ru, Halia, and Piikow regarding Staven's distrust of Iden, Marana made the fatal mistake of interjecting in the conversation using the Chadra-Fan language to stand up for the Vushan family. Dahna realized that Marana had lied about how many languages she could speak, and Ru told her accusingly that Chadra-Fan was not a language one would simply pick up. The Twi'lek snarled at her saying she never suspected that Marana was in league with Azen as a spy. Marana attempted to convince herself that she would be fine but knew that it was a futile hope she clung to. The group were extremely fond of her, but following the factory mission, they were angry and looking for someone to blame. She tried to reason with them that she was just good at languages, and as a slave, she learned to adapt quickly, but Dahna gripped her wrists and dragged her to Staven and the rest of the Dreamers. Marana knew various ways to break her grip and was confident she could flee the base, but knew she had to fix her mistake. She began to cry and fearfully asked what she had done wrong, but Dahna did not loosen her grip despite Piikow's mild protestations.

Reaching the main gathering space, Dahna threw Marana to the stone floor and explained to Staven and the group what Marana had done. Staven immediately assumed she had been eavesdropping the whole time, and Piikow deduced that the second detonation at the factory was down to Marana's tampering with the explosive. She knew she could not look for mercy at that point and ensured she did not make eye contact with her Inferno Squad comrades, though she saw their horror out of the corner of her eyes. Ru drew her vibroblade and demanded to be the one to kill Marana as Staven and the Mentor argued as to whether she was an Imperial agent or not. When the Mentor suggested that they check Dio's databanks, Marana knew she could not let that happen as there was no telling what they would find. It was then that she admitted to delaying the explosion, telling the group she could not participate in the murder of children, but she denied Staven's claim that she was an Imperial agent. Seeing the pain that radiated from Ru and Halia hurt Marana but she realised that the Mentor, Piikow and Dahna were searching for reasons to believe her, while the others wanted a reason to kill her.

Staven took the vibroblade from Ru and approached Marana, standing close enough that she could smell his sweat. As he towered over her, Marana thought of Staven losing his temper and striking her down before she could tell him anything. Instead, Staven passed the weapon to Iden and told her to interrogate Marana. When Iden hesitated with her actions, Marana acted swiftly. With a wailing sound of fury, she lunged at Iden and impaled herself on the vibroblade. As the blade pierced through her, she stared at Iden with wide eyes and mouthed the word “yes” silently to her commanding officer. Marana used her final moments to raggedly, but defiantly, declare “For the Empire!” before pulling the blade deeper. With a final gasp, her lifeless body crumpled to the ground. Her corpse was later dragged and tossed into a ditch outside of the base where, unbeknownst to everyone, it was collected by the native statue-like species of the planet and taken to the caverns below the surface where she would be laid to rest.

Legacy

Marana's death marked the beginning of the end for the Dreamers. They would now be split, and be completely unaware of the three more Imperial agents in their ranks. Her sacrifice would mean the end of that cell, as they would start to turn on each other and become less effective. The surviving members of Inferno Squad went on to complete the mission and eliminate the Dreamers. While debriefing, Iden took responsibility for Marana's death, but Admiral Versio decided that it was nobody's fault and just an unfortunate loss. After her death, Marana was recommended for the Posthumous Black Laurel for Service to the Empire by the Admiral.

Personality and traits

Seyn Marana flies as Inferno Four

Seyn Marana, a petite and slender human woman, possessed light brown skin, dark brown eyes, and black hair. She was among the most brilliant students at the Imperial Academy of Uyter, where her exceptional memory allowed her to thrive and graduate an entire year ahead of schedule. Her linguistic abilities were remarkable, as she mastered nearly thirty languages, encompassing Basic, Huttese, Chadra-Fan, and Ahak Maharr. Despite her lack of combat experience during her time at NavInt, her selection as the fourth member of Inferno Squad underscored her impressive skill set, which included forgery, cryptology, and exceptional marksmanship. Admiral Versio observed her ability to eliminate targets from distances exceeding five kilometers. A skilled operative, she excelled in undercover assignments and demonstrated the capacity for intense concentration over prolonged durations. Nevertheless, her proficiency inadvertently led to her downfall when she revealed her understanding of Chadra-Fan, a critical error that ultimately resulted in Marana's death. Despite differences between her true self and her undercover identity, Staven perceived a resemblance to Jyn Erso, drawing parallels in their forging talents, age, and even their names. Iden Versio considered Marana to appear even more youthful than her already young age.

The Making Of

Seyn Marana debuted in the book Battlefront II: Inferno Squad. Following Iden Versio's inclusion as a leader in the Star Wars: Unlimited Spark of Rebellion expansion, Tyler Parrott, a member of the team, resolved to integrate Marana into the game. Parrott had developed a fondness for the character and wished to ensure she received recognition. Although a partial view of her head is visible on the Inferno Squad cover, restrictions prevented Unlimited from showing her face, leading to her representation through her TIE fighter.
