Comet (clone trooper)

Comet, a Clone Corporal, fought for the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. This conflict pitted the Galactic Republic against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. He served under the leadership of both Jedi General Plo Koon and Clone Commander Wolffe. Comet was a member of the clone trooper squad known as the Wolfpack, a military unit within the 104th Battalion.

During the Clone Wars, Comet participated in numerous operations. Early in the conflict, alongside fellow Wolfpack troopers Boost and Sinker, he infiltrated the floating city called the Nexus on the planet Quarmendy in 22 BBY. Additionally, he took part in a rescue mission to Vanqor to save Jedi Master Mace Windu and Jedi General Anakin Skywalker in 21 BBY. Comet also engaged in large-scale battles, such as the Second Battle of Felucia in 20 BBY with Koon, Skywalker, and Padawan Ahsoka Tano, and the Battle of Kadavo, where he aided in rescuing the Togrutas from the artisan colony. His service continued into 19 BBY, the war's final year, when he accompanied Koon and the Wolfpack to a moon of Oba Diah in search of clues related to the deceased Jedi Sifo-Dyas.

Biography

Early missions

Like all clone troopers within the Galactic Republic's Grand Army, Comet was created on the homeworld of Kamino as a human male clone derived from the bounty hunter Jango Fett's genetic template. Comet's rank was Clone Corporal, and he was assigned to the Wolfpack within the 104th Battalion. Clone Commander Wolffe and Jedi General Plo Koon, a member of the Jedi High Council, jointly commanded this battalion, which fought against the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars.

Comet and the Wolfpack

In 22 BBY, Comet and the Wolfpack engaged Separatist forces in combat on the planet Quarmendy. Under the command of Commander Wolffe, Comet, accompanied by Wolfpack troopers Boost and Clone Sergeant Sinker, utilized JT-12 jetpacks to infiltrate the Nexus. This floating city and trading post was under the control of Separatist forces led by Emir Wat Tambor. The four troopers approached the station in a gunship piloted by clone pilot Corvis before using their jetpacks to approach covertly. Initially undetected, they were soon attacked by a swarm of D1-series aerial battle droids. Despite prevailing, Tambor chose to destroy the station to prevent its capture by the Republic. The four clones rescued a hostage and attempted to escape, with Comet expressing concern about the blast radius. However, Koon arrived in another gunship, rescuing the four troopers. Despite failing to capture the station, Koon commended their efforts in rescuing a hostage and expressed gratitude for their survival.

Comet supporting Master Windu

Following Boba Fett's, a young bounty hunter's sabotage of the Venator-class Star Destroyer Endurance in 21 BBY, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and Jedi Master Mace Windu landed on Vanqor to find survivors from the ship's crew, specifically Admiral Shoan Kilian and Clone Commander Ponds. However, Fett and fellow bounty hunters Aurra Sing, Bossk, and Castas ambushed the Jedi. An explosion caused debris to trap Windu and Skywalker. R2-D2, Skywalker's astromech droid, alerted Ahsoka Tano, Skywalker's Padawan, and Koon at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Koon, Tano, and the Wolfpack departed to rescue the Jedi. On Vanqor, Koon and Tano supported the ruined bridge while Comet and Wolffe rescued Skywalker and Windu, helping them aboard their gunship before the Venator collapsed and was destroyed.

Felucia

Comet advances through the Felucian jungle

Comet participated in the Second Battle of Felucia in 20 BBY. One evening, forces under Koon, Skywalker, and Tano approached a Separatist outpost. Koon split their forces for the attack. Comet led a group of clones, including Sinker and Boost, with Tano around the base's rear. Nearing the wall, Tano stopped Comet, stating she sensed something. After the corporal stopped the [troops](/article/troop], Tano suggested it was an animal. Comet and the troopers cautiously approached the wall, taking cover at the treeline. While Skywalker and Koon attacked frontally, Comet and his team eliminated sentry droids and scaled the wall using ascension cables. Tano covered them as Comet and his men secured their position. Comet then told Tano to come up after them, and Tano reassured Comet that she was right behind them. However, when Comet turned away to continue moving, Tano was captured by the Trandoshan hunter Lo-Taren.

Unaware of Tano's capture, Comet and his team continued fighting battle droids until they linked up with Koon and Skywalker's forces in the base's center. Skywalker complimented Comet but inquired about Tano's location, and the clone replied that she had been covering their flank. Realizing his Padawan was missing, Skywalker ordered Comet and his team to conduct a perimeter sweep, which revealed that Tano was missing in action. Despite Skywalker, Rex, and their men searching until the next day, Koon reminded Skywalker of their need to return to Coruscant, suggesting that military intelligence could locate her. Comet and the Republic forces then departed Felucia. Tano was later recovered on the moon Wasskah.

Searches and rescues

Later that year, following the enslavement of the population of Kiros by the Zygerrian Slave Empire and their relocation to a slave processing facility on Kadavo, Koon led the Wolfpack in an attempt to rescue them, along with Kenobi and Rex, who had been captured during their mission to find the enslaved Togrutas on Zygerria. Comet was part of the squad that used jetpacks to deploy ascension cables, allowing the Togrutas to escape onto their Arquitens-class light cruiser, the Hand of Justice. As the platform the Togrutas were on began to retract, some fell, with Comet catching one. Once the survivors reached the cruiser's hangar, Comet and the other troopers provided medical assistance.

Comet leading the search party

During the final year of the war, 19 BBY, Comet and the Wolfpack accompanied Koon to the moon of Oba Diah to locate a shuttle that had belonged to Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas. Amidst the harsh winds and dust, Comet used a comlink to contact the other search teams, reporting their lack of findings. While Comet suggested they were far from their target, Wolffe responded via comm from a turbo tank that their data indicated they were close. Comet confirmed they had thoroughly searched the area three times without visual or scanner detection, describing it as a wasteland. However, another trooper soon discovered the wreckage of the shuttle. Koon later reported their findings to the Jedi Council.

Legacy

In 1 BBY, Wolffe and former clone commando Gregor participated in the liberation of Lothal, battling the Galactic Empire. During the conflict, the native loth-wolves of Lothal joined the fight against Imperial forces. Noticing the similarity between the wolves and the "Wolfpack" nickname of the 104th Battalion squad, Gregor remarked that Wolffe had his Wolfpack back. Wolffe smiled and agreed, noting that they fought like Comet and the other men.

Personality and traits

Comet was a highly competent and seasoned soldier within Commander Wolffe's Wolfpack. His position as a corporal indicated the trust placed in him to lead other troopers, which he did effectively. Beyond the reliance of commanding officers Wolffe and Plo Koon, Ahsoka Tano also trusted him. As a clone of Jango Fett, Comet's physical characteristics included a height of 1.83 meters (6 feet), a weight of eighty kilograms, and tan skin.

Equipment

Comet wearing Phase II armor

Comet's Phase I clone trooper armor featured standard reddish and later gray-blue markings consistent with the Wolfpack, including distinctive markings on his helmet. His Phase II armor also had unique gray-blue paint. During the mission to Oba Diah's moon, Comet wore sand-proof armor designed for the harsh conditions, including specialized helmets and kamas. Comet's standard weaponry included a DC-15A blaster carbine, and he frequently used a jetpack on missions.

Like all clone troopers, Comet had a behavioral modification biochip implanted in his brain at birth by Kaminoan scientists. This was done to ensure their compliance with certain orders.

Behind the scenes

Comet's debut was in "R2 Come Home," the twenty-first episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars' second season. The episode aired on April 30, 2010. Dee Bradley Baker provided the voice for Comet, as he did for all other clone troopers in the series.
