Shimrra Jamaane
Shimrra Jamaane, despite holding the title of Supreme Overlord among the Yuuzhan Vong during the Yuuzhan Vong War, was in reality merely a pawn controlled by Onimi, a Force-sensitive Shamed One. His lineage traced back to Domain Jamaane, marking him from his very birth as a potential leader. Around 29 BBY, he fell under the influence of Onimi, a former member of the Shaper caste, who employed his abilities to dominate Shimrra. Guided by Onimi, Shimrra, with the backing of numerous warriors, overthrew the then-Supreme Overlord Quoreal. Following this, he declared the discovery of a new galaxy and proclaimed the Yuuzhan Vong's destiny to conquer it, a stark contrast to Quoreal's decision to avoid the galaxy due to the presence of the living planet Zonama Sekot, which he interpreted as an ominous sign.
The Yuuzhan Vong initiated their invasion of the galaxy in 25 ABY, thus commencing the Yuuzhan Vong War. They achieved initial successes, quickly overwhelming the New Republic. Three years into the conflict, Shimrra established his base on Yuuzhan'tar, where he remained for the duration of the war. From his palace, he presided over meetings, directed the war effort, and attempted to suppress the Jeedai heresy. However, after the Battle of Ebaq 9, the war's trajectory shifted negatively, leading to Shimrra's increasing instability. In 29 ABY, the appearance of Zonama Sekot above Yuuzhan'tar, considered a harbinger of doom, triggered riots and weakened Shimrra's already fragile authority. Shortly thereafter, the Battle of Yuuzhan'tar began. Refusing to yield Yuuzhan'tar to the Galactic Alliance, Shimrra ordered the burning of vast areas of the planet. Ultimately, Shimrra was confronted in his citadel by a team of Jedi led by Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, who engaged him in a duel and ultimately killed the Supreme Overlord. Shimrra's death precipitated Onimi's demise and the surrender of the Yuuzhan Vong forces.
Biography
Early life and coup
Born into Domain Jamaane several decades prior to the Battle of Yavin, Shimrra was a male member of the Yuuzhan Vong species. These extra-galactic beings had journeyed through the Intergalactic Void for countless years, seeking a new galaxy after devastating much of their original home galaxy in a civil war. Adherents of the True Way, the Yuuzhan Vong possessed deep religious convictions, worshipping various gods, with Yun-Yuuzhan, the creator deity, holding the most prominent position. Yuuzhan Vong society was structured into distinct castes, encompassing the Supreme Overlord, warriors, intendants, priests, shapers, workers, and Shamed Ones. Their reliance on divine entities led the Yuuzhan Vong to place great importance on their priests and their god-king, the Supreme Overlord. The Supreme Overlord alone maintained a connection to Yun-Yuuzhan, making all other Yuuzhan Vong completely subservient to him.
Shimrra had a twin brother; they represented only the third instance of twins in their species' recorded history. In the previous two cases, one twin had killed the other, subsequently leading the Yuuzhan Vong through periods of crisis. His status as a twin, combined with his noble birth, placed Shimrra among a select group of potential Supreme Overlord candidates. As such, Shimrra enjoyed numerous privileges and underwent extensive training in both warfare and religious practices. Thanks to the efforts of the Shapers, he attained an exceptional physical size. At the age of seven, Shimrra eliminated his brother, removing a potential rival for the throne and demonstrating his early aggression and ruthlessness.

Following a prolonged and fruitless journey through space, the Yuuzhan Vong located a galaxy and initiated scouting operations. In 32 BBY, Supreme Commander Zho Krazhmir, dispatched by Supreme Overlord Quoreal to explore the galaxy, discovered the planet Zonama Sekot within the new galaxy. Zonama Sekot, a sentient planet, bore striking similarities to the species' original homeworld, Yuuzhan'tar. Ancient prophecies foretold a living planet that would bring about the Yuuzhan Vong's downfall. Consequently, upon learning of this discovery in 29 BBY, Quoreal opted to continue searching for another galaxy. This decision proved unpopular among the Yuuzhan Vong, especially within Domain Jamaane.
At this juncture, a disgraced former shaper named Onimi decided to intervene. Onimi had previously discovered that the eighth cortex—the ultimate level of Shaping protocols directly dispensed by the gods and accessible only to the Supreme Overlord—was vacant, contrary to established belief. This revelation led Onimi to conclude that the Yuuzhan Vong faced certain doom if they failed to adapt. He attempted to graft yammosk tissue onto his brain, but the experiment resulted in physical disfigurement, marking him as a Shamed One and stripping him of his rank. However, it also opened him up to the Force, a connection severed from the Yuuzhan Vong millennia ago. Onimi believed that after thousands of years in the void, the Yuuzhan Vong would self-destruct without an external enemy to focus their energies on. Moreover, he aspired to usurp the gods' position and believed that conquering a new home would elevate the Yuuzhan Vong to their level.
Using his powers, he commanded Shimrra to accept him as his familiar and jester. Onimi seized control of Shimrra, who then initiated a coup to claim the throne. With the support of many warriors, Shimrra successfully overthrew and killed Quoreal. He then executed numerous loyalists of Quoreal, along with other Supreme Overlord candidates, to consolidate his authority. He also suppressed all knowledge of Zonama Sekot. Having completed these actions, the new Supreme Overlord announced to his people the discovery of a new galaxy, claiming it had been revealed to him in a divine dream. However, before the Yuuzhan Vong could claim the galaxy, they had to overcome the countless beings inhabiting it. The Yuuzhan Vong considered these beings infidels for not worshipping their gods and for using machine technology, which the True Way followers despised. Thus, the Yuuzhan Vong would only be satisfied with settling in the new galaxy once all infidels were either killed or converted and their technology destroyed. While not all members of the species supported Shimrra and his decisions, the dissidents remained silent, knowing that opposition would result in death. Meanwhile, as Onimi's power grew, Shimrra's original personality diminished, with the truth of Onimi's control remaining a secret known only to Onimi himself, the true power behind the throne.
The invasion begins
Following decades of preparation, the Yuuzhan Vong launched their invasion of the galaxy in 25 ABY. The ensuing war started favorably, catching the New Republic completely unprepared. Hesitant to engage in full-scale war, the New Republic focused on defending major hyperlanes leading to the Core Worlds and Colonies, while the Yuuzhan Vong made significant progress in the war's initial six months. Under the leadership of Warmaster Tsavong Lah, they captured several planets, including Obroa-skai and Ord Mantell, shocking the galaxy's inhabitants with their brutality. The Yuuzhan Vong continued to advance over the next two years, capitalizing on the galaxy's turmoil. In 26 ABY, they captured Yavin 4, the location of the Jedi Praxeum, and penetrated the Core, taking the planet Duro.
During this year, Onimi discovered the heretical shaper Nen Yim. Yim operated outside the established Shaping protocols, which would normally result in her execution. However, Onimi brought her before Shimrra. The Supreme Overlord decreed that she would serve him, secretly developing new techniques to fill the eighth cortex, providing the species with new shaper methods. In 27 ABY, Warmaster Lah initiated Battle Plan Coruscant, aiming to seize control of Coruscant, the galactic capital. The Yuuzhan Vong defeated the New Republic in the Battle of Coruscant, capturing the planet and leaving the New Republic in disarray. The New Republic later attacked Obroa-skai, believing Shimrra was visiting the planet. Despite the New Republic's victory, they discovered that the fleet was led not by the Supreme Overlord, but by Supreme Commander Komm Karsh.

In 28 ABY, Shimrra arrived at Coruscant aboard his flagship, a specialized Koros-Strohna worldship. The ship landed amidst tens of thousands of Yuuzhan Vong gathered to celebrate their leader. The ship eventually became Shimrra's Citadel, housing the Supreme Overlord's throne room. Shortly after landing on the planet—now renamed Yuuzhan'tar, after the Yuuzhan Vong's original homeworld—Shimrra convened a meeting in his throne room with the Elite, the leaders of the four main castes. During this meeting, he reprimanded Tsavong Lah for the heavy casualties sustained during the capture of Coruscant and for failing to adapt to the New Republic's new tactics. He also questioned Executor Nom Anor, who had served as an advance spy, about the government of the galaxy's other inhabitants, finding their tolerance and democracy novel and foolish concepts. After interrogating Anor, he turned his attention to Master Shaper Ch'Gang Hool, who was overseeing the terraforming of the planet. The terraforming efforts had been plagued with failures, and a furious Shimrra ordered Hool's execution upon his confession of fault.
Shortly after this meeting, Shimrra attended a ceremony dedicating a temple to the creator god Yun-Yuuzhan. The Yuuzhan Vong planned to execute over a hundred captives from the Battle of Coruscant, many of whom were senators or military officers. However, before the ceremony could begin, the Square of Sacrifice was filled with waste inexplicably rejected by the maw luur, creatures responsible for sewage disposal. Enraged, Shimrra declared the ritual invalid and ordered the captives killed without an audience. He then held a meeting in the temple with the Elite, scolding them and questioning whether the World Brain—the creature in charge of the terraforming—was responsible for the various failures. After ordering the execution of a shaper for the failed ceremony, he agreed to let Lah launch an imminent attack on the New Republic.
At some point, the Supreme Overlord met privately with Nom Anor to discuss the New Republic's movements and the Peace Brigade, a group of beings native to the galaxy who had allied with the Yuuzhan Vong, hoping to be on the winning side. Anor also brought news of Thrackan Sal-Solo, a Corellian politician who had promised to sign a neutrality treaty with the invaders and disable the Centerpoint Station superweapon if the Yuuzhan Vong left the Corellian system untouched. Sal-Solo, accompanied by his bodyguard Darjeelai Swan, had arrived to meet with Shimrra. An interrogation of Swan revealed that the New Republic, not Sal-Solo, controlled Centerpoint Station. This deception greatly angered Shimrra, although he agreed to meet with the Human.
Sal-Solo was brought into the chamber, where Shimrra informed him of his decision to accept the Human's offer. However, he had altered the terms; the Yuuzhan Vong would assist Sal-Solo's Centerpoint Party in seizing control of the Corellian system, after which Shimrra would govern the system. Furthermore, the Yuuzhan Vong planned to make Sal-Solo the leader of the Peace Brigade on their headquarters of Ylesia, rather than return him to the Corellian system. The galaxy's citizens viewed the Peace Brigaders as traitors, and Shimrra knew that associating Sal-Solo with them would discredit the Human and keep him under Yuuzhan Vong control. Upon learning of these changes, Sal-Solo attempted to negotiate his way out, but his words only enraged the Supreme Overlord. Infuriated that someone he considered scum would dare to speak to him as an equal, Shimrra ordered Sal-Solo removed from his chambers and sent to Ylesia.
The Supreme Overlord later held a meeting with Anor and Lah in his private chamber. Anor had gathered evidence suggesting that the New Republic had fled to the Deep Core moon of Ebaq 9, and the three planned a surprise attack that Anor believed would cripple the New Republic. However, the battle proved to be a trap set by the New Republic, resulting in Tsavong Lah's death. After the battle, Shimrra met with the Elite in his throne room, informing them that the defeat was merely a test from the gods. Vowing revenge on the infidels, he also declared Nom Anor a traitor, placing a death sentence on his head. Around this time, Shimrra began to slip from Onimi's control as the Shamed One became preoccupied with the Trickster Goddess Yun-Harla, whom he blamed for his downfall.
The tide turns
Following the Battle of Ebaq 9, the war continued to worsen for the Yuuzhan Vong. As Nen Yim's efforts to develop new Shaping protocols remained fruitless, Shimrra grew increasingly enraged. This was partly due to the recent Jeedai heresy, led by the prophet Yu'shaa, secretly Nom Anor in disguise. The Jeedai heresy was a rapidly expanding movement of Shamed Ones who worshiped the Jedi as their saviors and condemned Shimrra as the "Rainbow-Eyed Enemy," the being who kept them enslaved. Around this time, Shimrra received a report from Commander Ekh'm Val. Val had discovered a mysterious planet and brought back a starship from that world, featuring several characteristics of Yuuzhan Vong vessels. Upon hearing details of the seemingly living planet, Shimrra realized it was Zonama Sekot. To prevent others from learning of the planet's existence, he had Val killed, his name erased from the records, and his vessel, the Noble Sacrifice, destroyed. In this way, he successfully concealed Zonama Sekot's existence, securing his power.
To the Supreme Overlord's displeasure, Yu'shaa remained at large in the Coruscant Underworld, and the heresy continued to spread. Several members of his court, such as Prefects Ash'ett and Drosh Khalii, were found guilty of heresy, as several members of their households were believers in the Jeedai movement. Based on this evidence, a furious Shimrra had the Prefects and their families executed. However, the evidence had been planted by the Priestess [Ngaaluh], a secret follower of Yu'shaa. Nom Anor, seeking revenge on his enemies, had orchestrated their downfall; Ash'ett and Khalii were innocent of the charges against them. Unbeknownst to Ngaaluh and Anor, Shimrra suspected the evidence, finding it too perfect.
The Supreme Overlord began his own investigations and interrogated the Yuuzhan Vong heretics planted in the Prefects' homes. When confronted by their ruler, the terrified heretics confessed that they had merely been placed there, effectively absolving the Prefects of the alleged crimes. When Ngaaluh accused Prefect Zareb of heresy and presented the evidence before the Elite, Shimrra questioned the leaders of the various castes. After successfully intimidating several of the most powerful beings in the Yuuzhan Vong Empire, Shimrra turned on Ngaaluh. He revealed that he had discovered her fabrication of the evidence and ordered his guards to seize her. However, the Priestess committed suicide by poison before they could stop her.
Shimrra refused to restore the dead Prefects' honor, claiming they would serve as a potent reminder to those who dared to oppose him. He vowed to stop the Jeedai heresy and kill its members. Later, Onimi showed Nen Yim the starship brought to the Supreme Overlord by Ekh'm Val. The ship was of Sekotan origin, and upon examining it, Nen Yim discovered its similarities to the Yuuzhan Vong's yorik-et fighters. When Yim revealed her discovery to Shimrra, he ordered her to develop weapons to use against such vessels if the Yuuzhan Vong encountered them in battle. Despite seeking weapons against similar ships, Shimrra claimed that the planet of origin had been destroyed, wishing to prevent knowledge of Zonama Sekot from spreading among his people.
Dissidence and intrigue
Shortly after Nen Yim began studying the ship, she fled from Shimrra's Citadel with the help of several Jedi and dissident Yuuzhan Vong. In her absence, Shimrra promoted Shaper Adept Qelah Kwaad to the rank of Master Shaper. During his questioning of Kwaad, she suggested that Master Shaper Ahsi Yim, who had assisted Nen Yim, had played a role in Nen Yim's disappearance. An irate Shimrra then had Ahsi Yim killed. Not long after this, he received a message from intendant Phaa Anor. Anor informed the Supreme Overlord that he had been contacted by Nom Anor, who possessed crucial information for Shimrra.

Shimrra communicated with Nom Anor using a villip, at which point the former Executor informed him of his location: Zonama Sekot, in the company of Nen Yim and the Priest Harrar. Shimrra, declaring this impossible due to Zonama Sekot's supposed destruction, was met with Anor's suggestion to contact Harrar, knowing the Supreme Overlord couldn't find him on Yuuzhan'tar. Shimrra, realizing his deception was uncovered and that others knew of Zonama Sekot, experienced fear. Anor then offered to have his villip act as a tracer, allowing Shimrra to dispatch a fleet to obliterate the planet. Despite knowing the difficulty of destroying Zonama Sekot, Shimrra hesitated, but was persuaded when Anor promised to sabotage it, ensuring its destruction by the Yuuzhan Vong. Should Anor succeed, Shimrra—unaware of Anor's Yu'shaa nature—vowed to pardon him and readmit him to his court.
Ushk Choka captained the Red Qurang, which was dispatched to retrieve Nom Anor to Yuuzhan'tar. Before Choka's arrival, Anor carried out his promised sabotage, but failed to completely destroy Zonama Sekot. Unaware of this outcome, Shimrra elevated Anor to the rank of Prefect. Concurrently, rumors reached the Supreme Overlord from his spies, indicating a decline in faith among the Yuuzhan Vong due to the war's changing fortunes, with many believing he had lost divine favor. To suppress any thoughts of rebellion, he convened a meeting with the Elite, warning them of the consequences of betrayal and blaming them for recent defeats, accusing them of disloyalty to him and the gods. Throughout Shimrra's rebuke of the Elite, Onimi remained nearby, reciting rhymes as was his custom.
After reprimanding his subordinates, Shimrra introduced his ten Slayers, warriors equipped with specialized weaponry and biot technology. Their fusion of priest and warrior castes led to their widespread condemnation as abominations within the court. When Supreme Commander Chaan questioned the wisdom of creating the Slayers, Shimrra commanded him to select ten warriors to engage the Slayers in combat. To the astonishment of the assembled observers, two Slayers defeated Chaan and his ten warriors.
Following the public display, Shimrra held a private discussion with Nom Anor, sharing his conviction that the Yuuzhan Vong's greatest adversary was not the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances—the current name of the New Republic—but the gods themselves. The Supreme Overlord posited that the gods were angered by the Yuuzhan Vong's diminishing need for them. Shimrra believed the Yuuzhan Vong had grown strong enough to thrive independently of their gods, and even seize their power. Those who genuinely believed in the gods—the majority of Yuuzhan Vong—posed a threat to Shimrra's ambition to usurp the gods' power, though he remained confident in his ability to manipulate others and advance his own agenda. However, by this point, Onimi's visions of power and his own hatred of the gods had driven him completely insane, twisting his mind.
Three days after the Battle of Caluula, which resulted in the capture of thousands of infidels, a large gathering of Yuuzhan Vong, including the Supreme Overlord, assembled at the Place of Sacrifice on Yuuzhan'tar for the ceremonial execution of the prisoners. Before the ritual could commence, however, a massive force of Shamed Ones launched an attack, successfully freeing a number of captives. This event, indicative of the growing strength of the Jeedai heresy, enraged Shimrra, as the movement threatened his authority. In retaliation, he ordered the roundup and execution of three thousand Shamed Ones in the following days, regardless of their involvement in the heresy movement. At some point, he managed to persuade the wayward World Brain to fulfill its duties properly, rather than sabotaging projects under its direction. With this accomplishment, the terraforming of Yuuzhan'tar finally proceeded without obstruction.
The appearance of Zonama Sekot
Shimrra subsequently directed Nas Choka to attack Mon Calamari, which had become the new headquarters of the Galactic Alliance. Despite Choka's reservations, the Supreme Overlord insisted on the attack to appease the bloodthirsty gods, particularly Yun-Yuuzhan. Three days later, a fleet under Choka's command departed from Yuuzhan'tar. Shimrra and the Elite were present for its departure, with the Supreme Overlord imploring Yun-Yuuzhan to assist the fleet in its mission to destroy the infidels on Mon Calamari. By this time, Shimrra had become widely despised, with many losing faith in his leadership and believing the gods had abandoned him.

The Yuuzhan Vong initiated their assault on Mon Calamari, initially gaining an advantage over the Galactic Alliance fleet, when suddenly Zonama Sekot materialized in the sky above Yuuzhan'tar. Nas Choka ordered a retreat to Yuuzhan'tar, while simultaneously commanding the Yuuzhan Vong ships already present to defend against any attacks from the newly arrived planet. The unexpected appearance of Zonama Sekot—proclaimed by Yu'shaa as the harbinger of Shimrra's downfall and the salvation of the Shamed Ones—caused widespread chaos on Yuuzhan'tar. Shamed Ones celebrated in ecstatic riots, while many higher-caste Yuuzhan Vong were overcome with fear and confusion.
After Zonama Sekot remained in orbit near Yuuzhan'tar for several days, Shimrra summoned Nom Anor for a private meeting. Despite the Prefect's admission of his earlier failure to destroy the world, Shimrra declared that he did not hold Anor responsible, instead blaming the gods. The Supreme Overlord explained to Anor his belief that the gods had preserved Zonama Sekot and brought it to Yuuzhan'tar. He asserted that destroying it now would secure victory for the Yuuzhan Vong. To prevent divine intervention, Shimrra instructed Anor to order all priests to cease worshiping any god except the Trickster, Yun-Harla. He reasoned that focusing all rituals on her would inflate Yun-Harla's ego, provoking the jealous gods to attack her, initiating a war among themselves. Shimrra saw this as retribution for the suffering the gods had inflicted on the Yuuzhan Vong during their journey through the Intergalactic Void, and believed that while the gods were preoccupied, the Yuuzhan Vong could destroy Zonama Sekot.
Shimrra later convened with the Elite, and after mocking their cowardice, he informed them that he was aware of the rumors questioning his fitness to rule. Furthermore, Shimrra revealed his knowledge of Zonama Sekot, whose existence he had previously denied, and claimed that after his coup, he had dispatched forces to search for it. However, due to their inability to locate the legendary living world, Shimrra stated that he had begun to doubt its existence, considering it a mere fabrication of Quoreal's, born out of cowardice. He now believed that the appearance of Zonama Sekot was simply a final test from the gods. Shimrra also asserted that his prayers to Yun-Harla had yielded a solution.
During a brief skirmish with Galactic Alliance forces on Caluula just days prior, all Yuuzhan Vong and their biots on the planet—along with several other life-forms—had fallen ill and perished. Shimrra concluded that this was the result of a chemical weapon developed by the Alliance. One ship had managed to return to Yuuzhan'tar, where it was quarantined in the atmosphere to prevent further infection. The Supreme Overlord planned to crash this ship into Zonama Sekot, releasing the pathogen, infecting the planet, and ultimately killing it. Shortly thereafter, an armada led by Choka was dispatched to Zonama Sekot with the mission of infecting the planet.
The final battle
Shimrra's meditation was interrupted by Supreme Commander Laait, who informed the Supreme Overlord that Nas Choka had a message for him. A Galactic Alliance fleet had positioned itself between the Yuuzhan Vong and Zonama Sekot, and although Choka's forces had broken through the enemy's lines, Zonama Sekot had launched its own defenses—living ships. This news stunned Shimrra and all the Yuuzhan Vong present. When several priests questioned Shimrra's judgment, the Supreme Overlord had his Slayers execute them, fearing further erosion of his tenuous grip on power. In response to the musings of High Prefect Drathul and High Priest Jakan, he declared that the heretics were responsible for the appearance of these infidel vessels.
To resolve the situation, Shimrra placed half of the warriors in his Citadel under the command of Nom Anor, tasking him with the execution of every heretic on Yuuzhan'tar. Driven by fear of defeat, the Supreme Overlord also managed to convince the World Brain to ignite fires across Yuuzhan'tar's surface, hoping to render it uninhabitable for anyone. Meanwhile, the Battle of Yuuzhan'tar raged on, with Galactic Alliance vessels clashing with Yuuzhan Vong ships above Yuuzhan'tar. Simultaneously, the Yuuzhan Vong attempted to crash the infected vessel into Zonama Sekot, which was currently located in-system near the planet Muscave.

A contingent of Galactic Alliance soldiers and Jedi successfully landed on Yuuzhan'tar, and three Jedi managed to bypass the Yuuzhan Vong's defenses and enter Shimrra's Citadel. In his private quarters, accompanied by Onimi and fifteen Slayers, Shimrra awaited their arrival, concealing within his robes the lightsaber of the Jedi Anakin Solo, who had perished during the Mission to Myrkr two years prior. Soon, the trio reached Shimrra's private chamber. There, the Jedi—Luke Skywalker, Jacen Solo, and Jaina Solo—engaged the Slayers in combat.
Despite Onimi's use of his powers to manipulate the Citadel, constantly disrupting everyone's balance, the Slayers were unable to defeat the Jedi, with Luke Skywalker displaying particular ferocity. Shimrra then joined the fray, wielding his Scepter of Power, a specialized amphistaff. He engaged Skywalker in single combat while the remaining Slayers battled the Solos. The Supreme Overlord gained the upper hand, ensnaring Skywalker with his amphistaff. The Jedi also sustained a bite from the creature, injecting poison into his system. With Skywalker at his mercy, Shimrra then drew Solo's lightsaber from his robes.
As Shimrra prepared to decapitate Skywalker, the Jedi used the Force to wrest the weapon from the Supreme Overlord's grasp. With the Yuuzhan Vong momentarily distracted, Skywalker swiftly shattered his Scepter of Power and then decapitated Shimrra, ending his life. Meanwhile, Jacen and Jaina Solo pursued Onimi to the Citadel's private yorik-trema escape vessel, where the Shamed One revealed himself as the true Supreme Overlord, having manipulated Shimrra for decades. Jacen Solo succeeded in killing him, and shortly thereafter, the Yuuzhan Vong fleet above Yuuzhan'tar—which had failed to destroy Zonama Sekot—received news of Shimrra's death. For the first time in their history, the Yuuzhan Vong were without a Supreme Overlord, their link to the gods. Moreover, because Shimrra had eliminated all potential successors, the Yuuzhan Vong had no one to assume his mantle and lead them. Utterly lost without their ruler, the species surrendered. Soon after, the Sekot Accords were signed, stipulating that the Yuuzhan Vong would destroy all their weapons, abandon their warlike ways, and settle on Zonama Sekot—which the Jedi had recognized as a seed of the original Yuuzhan'tar. With this, the war concluded.
Personality and traits
For the majority of the final sixty years of his existence, Shimrra was under the sway of Onimi, whose Force abilities allowed him to control Shimrra's actions. During his time as Onimi's puppet, Shimrra was known for his cruelty, his obsession with maintaining power, and his skill in manipulating others. Although the Yuuzhan Vong were a naturally violent species, Shimrra was considered exceptionally vicious, even by their standards.
Shimrra was committed to eradicating all infidels, viewing it as his divinely ordained duty. He pursued this goal relentlessly, resulting in the deaths of over one-third of the warrior caste by the end of the Yuuzhan Vong War. Despite criticizing Tsavong Lah for squandering troops, Shimrra readily sacrificed vast numbers of Yuuzhan Vong to achieve his objectives, primarily the conquest of the galaxy.

He harbored intense hatred for the Jeedai heresy, denouncing its followers and its leader, Yu'shaa, and was willing to execute all members of two Prefects' households simply for harboring heretics. Even after it was proven that Ngaaluh had planted the heretics, Shimrra refused to restore the reputations of the deceased intendants, declaring that their deaths would serve as a warning to other Yuuzhan Vong. Shimrra's hatred for the heresy was so profound that he had Zareb killed after Ngaaluh accused him of heresy, even though he had already determined that the Priestess was fabricating the evidence.
As the Supreme Overlord of the Yuuzhan Vong, Shimrra was believed to be the species' sole connection to the most important god, Yun-Yuuzhan, granting him almost limitless authority over his people. He presided over all castes, with the power to command everything from the warrior caste's endeavors to the priests' religious practices. Shimrra cherished his power and went to extreme lengths to protect it after overthrowing Quoreal. This included the execution of thousands of heretics, as well as anyone who opposed his will. Shimrra suppressed all knowledge of Zonama Sekot, and executed Ekh'm Val for discovering the planet during the Yuuzhan Vong War, preventing others from learning about the world that supposedly foretold the Yuuzhan Vong's demise. He also concealed the emptiness of the eighth cortex from his species for decades, knowing that its revelation would significantly weaken his authority.
For much of his life, Shimrra wielded absolute control over the Yuuzhan Vong. Ruling autocratically, he frequently disregarded the advice of his advisors on the Great Council. The Supreme Overlord used intimidation to enforce submission among his species, earning a reputation for ruthlessness and terror. Other Yuuzhan Vong feared him, and even Warmasters trembled in his presence. Furthermore, Shimrra possessed an uncanny ability to sense the thoughts of others, thanks to Onimi's Force-sensitivity. The Supreme Overlord's apparent omniscience was so convincing that High Prefect Yoog Skell once cautioned Nom Anor against even contemplating lying to Shimrra. Shimrra was also highly adept at manipulating others and skilled in political maneuvering. Onimi's subtle use of his Force powers to influence other Yuuzhan Vong created the illusion that Shimrra possessed a mysterious ability to affect their minds, further enhancing his reputation as a terrifying, omniscient leader.
To further enhance his image as an omnipotent vessel of the gods, Shimrra had both his public and private thrones in his Citadel equipped with dovin basals—creatures capable of generating gravitational fields. By manipulating these dovin basals, Shimrra created the illusion that those approaching his throne were walking uphill, suggesting that merely approaching the Supreme Overlord was an arduous task in itself.

Unlike most Yuuzhan Vong, Shimrra did not believe in the gods, but instead sought to overthrow them, much like his overthrow of Quoreal. Under Onimi's influence, Shimrra developed a hatred for the gods and declared war against them. He believed that the Yuuzhan Vong had surpassed the gods and were ready to take their place. Shimrra believed that the gods feared this and conspired to destroy the Yuuzhan Vong. The appearance of Zonama Sekot in 29 ABY was, in his view, simply a test. He felt that by destroying Zonama Sekot, the species would prove themselves and force the gods to surrender.
By 29 ABY, Shimrra had descended into complete madness. Despite his ability to intimidate and manipulate others, many Yuuzhan Vong had lost confidence in him. His declarations that the gods, not the Galactic Alliance, were the Yuuzhan Vong's true enemy were met with skepticism from the Elite, a group that typically held him in great fear. However, some had heard rumors of Zonama Sekot, and as the war took a turn for the worse, their faith in Shimrra diminished, with some believing that the Yuuzhan Vong had been better off under Quoreal. Prefect Nom Anor and High Prefect Drathul were among those in the Supreme Overlord's court who had lost all faith in Shimrra by the time of the Battle of Yuuzhan'tar. Anor believed that Shimrra no longer provided stable leadership for the Yuuzhan Vong and that the species was lost.
To maintain the facade that Shimrra was the Supreme Overlord, and Onimi merely his jester, Onimi had Shimrra publicly abuse him. This prevented anyone from realizing that Onimi was the true power behind the throne, and although many questioned why the Supreme Overlord kept a Shamed One as his familiar, they did not dare question Shimrra directly. As Supreme Overlord, Shimrra was frequently addressed as "Dread Lord," "Great One," or "Fearsome One," among other similar titles.
Appearance
Through Yuuzhan Vong shaping techniques, Shimrra was grown to an immense size. Luke Skywalker remarked that the Supreme Overlord was the largest Yuuzhan Vong he had ever encountered, and Nom Anor observed that he towered over the Elite during meetings. The hau polyp creatures that formed his throne would occasionally rupture under the strain of supporting the Supreme Overlord's massive frame. Shimrra possessed slender limbs and a large head, with his torso and head covered in brands and tattoos honoring the gods. He wore gray robes crafted from the flesh of Steng, a rebellious Yuuzhan Vong Warmaster from millennia past.
Shimrra had mqaaq'it-implanted eyes that constantly shifted colors, although they were most often red. His eyes glittered when he was angry, intimidating those under his gaze and creating the sensation that their minds were being read. Nom Anor feared the Supreme Overlord's eyes, finding the frequent color changes unsettling.
Behind the scenes
Shimrra Jamaane was conceived for The New Jedi Order, a nineteen-book series published by Del Rey between 1999 and 2003. The character's concept emerged during initial discussions among several authors and Lucas Licensing editors, who were outlining the overarching narrative progression of the series. At this early stage, James Luceno, then serving as a consultant but later authoring three novels in the series, proposed the idea of the Supreme Overlord being a "puppet ruler."
Shimrra was first mentioned in Luceno's The New Jedi Order: Agents of Chaos I: Hero's Trial, published in 2000 as the fourth novel in the series. He was subsequently mentioned in several other novels, playing the role of a major antagonist controlling events from the shadows and serving as the driving force behind the invasion. He made his first appearance in Greg Keyes' The New Jedi Order: Edge of Victory II: Rebirth, published in 2001. Hints of Shimrra's true role as Onimi's puppet were present in The New Jedi Order: Destiny's Way, and the character's significance grew towards the series' conclusion, as he was given a prominent role in several books, culminating in the final novel, The New Jedi Order: The Unifying Force. Written by Luceno, this final installment in the series definitively revealed Shimrra's role as a figurehead for the apparent jester Onimi.
Following the end of The New Jedi Order, Shimrra was mentioned in several novels and reference books. He was first identified as "Shimrra Jamaane" in Luceno's novel, Millennium Falcon, published in 2008. Both The New Jedi Order: Edge of Victory I: Conquest and Legacy (2006) 44 incorrectly spell his name as "Shimmra."
