Mid Rim Territories
The Mid Rim Territories, alternatively called the Middle Rim, or simply the Mid Rim, designated a galactic region the galaxy situated between the Expansion Region and the Outer Rim Territories. Within the Mid Rim's boundaries lay Wasskah, a moon, along with the planets Aleen, Bothawui, Coyerti, Crul, Dinzo, Gan Moradir, Haidoral Prime, Ithor, Kashyyyk, Malastare, Naator, NaJedha, Phorsa Gedd, Shu-Torun, Takodana, Naboo, and Trandosha.
Following the Hutt Clan–Republic treaty during the Clone Wars, which granted them access to vital Mid Rim trade routes, the Hutts gained control over a portion of the Mid Rim. However, by the time of the Galactic Civil War, the Galactic Empire held dominion over the majority of the territory.
Description
The Mid Rim was a galactic zone the galaxy that created a zone between the Expansion Region and the Outer Rim Territories, making it the region farthest from the Deep Core still considered part of the "inner planets." The Mid Rim contained a diverse array of worlds, a significant number of which had prosperous economies and effective governments; however, their distance from the Core meant they lacked the fame of Core Worlds such as Corellia. The Western Reaches and the Mid Rim shared some overlapping areas.
History
Early history

One thousand years prior to the [Cold War](/article/cold_war], a battle unfolded on the Mid Rim world of Takodana between the ancient Jedi and Sith. Maz Kanata's castle was subsequently constructed on the site of this conflict. Jedha, a moon located in the Mid Rim, held religious significance for numerous Force religions. The moon housed sacred landmarks, including the Temple of the Kyber.
High Republic Era
In 382 BBY, the Path of the Open Hand cult exploited the existing religious tensions on Jedha, escalating them into a substantial riot. Simultaneously, a summit on Jedha was underway, owing to its neutral status in the Eiram and E'ronoh War. Nevertheless, the Path's interference led to the breakdown of peace negotiations, reigniting the conflict, which then intensified the violence initially sparked by the riots on Jedha. The Path utilized the chaos as a smokescreen to attempt the theft of the Rod of Daybreak. While the Battle of Jedha eventually concluded, and the people of Jedha began collaborating to rebuild their home in an uneasy peace, news of the incident and the Path's apparent involvement—swiftly attributed to Herald Werth Plouth alone by the equally-culpable Mother Elecia Zeveron—disseminated from the Mid Rim.
Malastare Narrows
Sometime before the Clone Wars, the Corporate Alliance, under the command of the Harch Admiral Trench, blockaded the Mid Rim planet of Malastare. A Galactic Republic contingent, led by Wullf Yularen and a Jedi task force, successfully lifted the blockade. This engagement resulted in significant casualties on both sides, marking the first presumed death of the Harch commander.
Naboo Crisis
In 32 BBY, a disagreement arose between the Trade Federation and the Republic concerning the taxation of trade routes to remote systems, including the Mid Rim world of Naboo. Consequently, the Trade Federation invaded and occupied the planet. A coalition comprising the human Naboo, the indigenous Gungans, and the Jedi ultimately expelled the Federation from Naboo.
The Clone Wars
Before the Clone Wars, the Mid Rim was regarded as a peaceful region, but it experienced extensive combat between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the conflict. The treaty forged between the Republic and Hutt Clan following the mission to Jabba's Palace granted the Hutts access to crucial trade routes that traversed the Mid Rim. During a skirmish aboard the MPO-1400 Purgill-class star cruiser Halcyon, Senator Padmé Amidala persuaded a Lord Hutt aboard the vessel to assist Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and herself, emphasizing the Republic's authority to revoke the Hutt's access to those vital routes.

Following General Grievous' ambush of Republic Navy forces above Falleen, Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi advised Skywalker to withdraw his fleet from Bothawui to reorganize. Instead, Skywalker's fleet clashed with Grievous' fleet above Bothawui in 22 BBY. During the battle, R2-D2 was lost but was later recovered. The defense of Bothawui preserved the Republic's control over the Mid Rim, which the Confederacy had nearly succeeded in establishing its own foothold within.
Later, Amidala, Junior Representative Jar Jar Binks, the Jedi, and clone troopers discovered that the Separatist scientist Nuvo Vindi was operating a biological weapons laboratory on Naboo. After a prolonged struggle, they neutralized Dr. Vindi's Blue Shadow Virus and prevented its release into Naboo's atmosphere.
In 21 BBY, Malastare became a battleground fighting between the Republic and the Separatists due to its fuel resources. During the battle, the Jedi concluded a treaty with the Dug Council after agreeing to eliminate an ancient monster known as the Zillo Beast. The Jedi and clone troopers successfully used cannons to stun the beast and transported it to Coruscant for research.

In 20 BBY, Ahsoka Tano, a Jedi Padawan, was abducted by Trandoshan bounty hunters and taken to the Trandoshan moon of Wasskah. There, she collaborated with former Jedi younglings Kalifa, O-Mer, and Jinx to survive. The Jedi then joined forces with the Wookiee Chewbacca to fight back against the Trandoshans. A Wookiee relief force under the command of General Tarfful rescued them.
Later that year, Rish Loo, a Gungan minister and Separatist agent, attempted to influence Boss Lyonie to assist the Separatists in attacking Theed, the Naboo capital. Binks, Amidala, and Jedi Knight Skywalker thwarted Loo's scheme. The Gungans captured Grievous but were compelled to release him after Count Dooku, the Separatist leader, took Skywalker as a hostage.
Subsequently, the Mid Rim planet of Aleen experienced severe earthquakes, resulting in numerous fatalities among the native Aleena. With forces from the 104th Battalion diverted to Aleen instead of the defense of the Qiilura system, the droids C-3PO and R2-D2 participated in a Republic relief mission led by Clone Commander Wolffe. During the mission, C-3PO and R2-D2 encountered the subterranean Kintaro and the amphibian being Orphne, who revealed that a breach on the surface had caused the earthquakes. Upon returning to Aleen's surface, the two droids assisted in sealing the breach, which ended the earthquake and restored peace to both the underworld and surface. Subsequently, C-3PO and R2-D2 embarked on an unplanned adventure that took them to the planets Patitite Pattuna and Balnab.

After some time, Kenobi, Skywalker, and Mace Windu thwarted a scheme by Cad Bane and Count Dooku to kidnap Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, secretly known as Darth Sidious. In 19 BBY, Ord Mantell was the site of a battle between Maul, the former Sith apprentice, and his Shadow Collective and Grievous, which resulted in the latter's capture. In response, the Republic dispatched a team of Jedi led by Windu to Ord Mantell to investigate Maul's activities.
During the Outer Rim Sieges, Jedi General Quinlan Vos relocated his forces to Boz Pity. Master Yoda commanded Wookiee and clone forces during the Battle of Kashyyyk. Yoda was compelled to flee Kashyyyk, the Wookiee homeworld, when Sidious issued Order 66. Shortly thereafter, the Republic was transformed into the Galactic Empire and the Separatist leadership was destroyed, marking the end of the Clone Wars.
Imperial Era
During the Imperial Era, the Mid Rim, along with much of the galaxy, fell under the control of the Empire. At one point, a series of chaotic Mid Rim uprisings were initiated against the Empire by rebellious monarchies, but the revolt was suppressed by Imperial Starfighter Pilots. In 14 BBY, Dodd Rancit, the Imperial Vice Admiral, identified Lantillies, a Mid Rim world, as a potential target of Berch Teller's rebel cell.
In 10 BBY, Tobias Beckett, a criminal, and his gang, which included Han Solo, an Imperial deserter, and Chewbacca, undertook a heist to steal a train cargo of coaxium on Vandor, a Mid Rim world. The heist failed due to the intervention of Enfys Nest and her rebel group, the Cloud-Riders, leaving Beckett and his crew in debt to Dryden Vos, the Crimson Dawn crime lord. After convincing Dryden to grant them a second chance, Solo, Beckett, Chewbacca, and Qi'ra, the Crimson Dawn lieutenant, persuaded Lando Calrissian, a smuggler and gambler, to assist them in steal coaxium from the Pyke Syndicate on Kessel.
On one occasion, HoloNet News reported that the 212th Attack Battalion, under the command of General Kahdah, had quelled a Wookiee revolt on Kashyyyk. Consequently, civilian travel to the planet was restricted. The xenophobic Empire also enslaved the Wookiees of Kashyyyk, regarding them as a disposable source of slave labor. Many Wookiees were fitted with inhibitor chips, and Kashyyyk was renamed Imperial Territory G5-623. Nevertheless, some Wookiees, such as Chewbacca and Lohgarra, managed to escape offworld and live free lives.
In 4 BBY, Hera Syndulla, a Spectres rebel operative, traveled to Shantipole, a Mid Rim world, on behalf of the rebellion to obtain a prototype B-wing starfighter from Quarrie, a Mon Calamari engineer. As a result, the rebellion gained access to the B-wing starfighters.
In 3 BBY, Saw Gerrera's Partisans assassinated Quarsh Panaka, Naboo's Imperial governor and Moff.

By 1 BBY, Imperial forces had occupied Jedha. The Empire mined Jedha for kyber crystals, which were utilized in the superlaser of the Death Star. Wilhuff Tarkin, the Grand Moff, later destroyed Jedha City to test the Death Star's superlaser. Cassian Andor and Jyn Erso, operatives of the Rebel Alliance, successfully smuggled Bodhi Rook, an Imperial defector with knowledge of how to destroy the Death Star, offworld. To conceal the Death Star, the Empire informed the Imperial Senate that Jedha City had been destroyed in a mining accident. Furthermore, the Empire operated a penal labor camp on Wobani.
Following the destruction of Alderaan, Darth Vader visited Shu-Torun, a Mid Rim volcanic mining world, to ensure the loyalty of the King of Shu-Torun and his people to the Empire. With the assistance of the assassin droids 0-0-0 and BT-1, Vader thwarted a plot by the King and his family to assassinate him. Vader then compelled Trios, the King's youngest daughter and a Princess, to become the new Queen of Shu-Torun. During the War on Shu-Torun, Trios aided the Empire in subduing several rebellious ore-dukes.
During the Galactic Civil War, several Mid Rim worlds and systems, including Haidoral Prime, Coyerti, the Chonsetta system, the Redhurne system, and the Elochar sector, became battlegrounds between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire during the Mid Rim Retreat. After months of combat, Alliance forces were stretched too thin, and Alliance High Command was forced to order a retreat as Imperial forces launched a counter-attack.
Rise of the New Republic

Following the Battle of Endor, the populace of Theed, Naboo's capital, celebrated Darth Sidious's demise in the city's streets. Subsequently, Sosha Soruna, the Queen of Naboo, accepted Princess Leia Organa's invitation to become part of the New Republic, which succeeded the Rebel Alliance. In the days that followed the Endor events, Naboo became a target of Operation: Cinder, a contingency strategy designed to devastate numerous planets upon the Emperor's passing. General Lando Calrissian saved the world from destruction by a number of Imperial climate disruption arrays. The New Republic also successfully fought off three attempts by Imperial forces aiming to reclaim the planet.
In the months after Endor, Grand Moff Valco Pandion deserted an Imperial communications station situated on Malastare. Despite this, remnant forces of the Empire, under the command of Grand General Kenner Loring, maintained control of the world. During the Galactic Civil War period, Maz Kanata's castle, located on Takodana, was considered a safe haven of neutrality for smugglers, pirates, Imperials, and rebels alike.
Later, Solo, alongside his co-pilot Chewbacca, spearheaded a campaign with the goal to liberate Kashyyyk from the Empire's grasp. Despite encountering various obstacles and the New Republic's initial reluctance, Solo and Chewie were successful in deactivating Grand Moff Lozen Tolruck's inhibitor chips. They also ignited a Wookiee uprising in 5 ABY, aided by Wookiee exiles, former enslaved individuals, Sinjir Rath Velus (a former Imperial loyalty officer), Jas Emari (a bounty hunter), and Jom Barell (a soldier from the New Republic Special Forces). Subsequently, a New Republic fleet commanded by Admiral Ackbar compelled the remaining Imperial ships in orbit above Kashyyyk to surrender, thereby ending the Imperial oppression of the Wookiees. In the months leading up to the Battle of Jakku, Wookiee and New Republic forces systematically eliminated remaining Imperial resistance, freeing numerous Wookiee slaves, including Waroo, Chewbacca's offspring.
Naboo, a world in the Mid Rim, also became a sanctuary for numerous orphans and refugees. One of them, named Mapo, formed a friendship with Binks, who had transitioned into a street performer. Around 9 ABY, the Mid Rim experienced recurring attacks from the Pirate Nation, with the New Republic proving unable to effectively defend the region.
Cold war

Before the open war began, the First Order used a series of fake pirate attacks on the Colossus oil platform located on the Mid Rim planet Castilon to pressure Captain Imanuel Doza into accepting a military occupation of the Colossus. Following the Hosnian Cataclysm, Team Colossus, under the leadership of Resistance spy Kazuda Xiono and New Republic veteran Jarek Yeager, drove out the First Order and took the space station into the vastness of space. The First Order responded by initiating a hunt for the station that had escaped.
In 34 ABY, Maz Kanata's castle on Takodana was attacked by the First Order. Many individuals present at Maz Kanata's castle also bore witness to the Hosnian Cataclysm.
First Order/Resistance War

During the war between the First Order and the Resistance, Poe Dameron, Finn, Chewbacca, and Klaud embarked on a mission to the Sinta Glacier Colony, where Boolio revealed to them that a First Order spy had verified Darth Sidious's resurrection.
Subsequently, Rey, Finn, Poe, Chewbacca, C-3PO, BB-8, and D-O journeyed to Kijimi City in search of a droidsmith capable of extracting the memory of the inscriptions present on Ochi's dagger from 3PO's memory banks. The group located a droid mechanic by the name of Babu Frik, who successfully translated the Sith inscription for C-3PO, resulting in the loss of his memories, a sacrifice that 3PO willingly made for his companions. With the assistance of Zorii Bliss, Poe's former associate in spice-running, the group managed to escape off-world, rescue Chewie, and retrieve the Millennium Falcon from the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer called the Steadfast. In 35 ABY, the resurrected Darth Sidious commanded Allegiant General Enric Pryde to deploy the Xyston-class Star Destroyer Derriphan to obliterate Kijimi, aiming to coerce the galaxy into submitting to the Emperor's Sith Eternal.
